While Mugabe takes a holiday in Rome (Reuters), are Chinese officials and/or military personnel based in Zimbabwe coordinating the mass intimidation, beatings, torture and killing back home?  Directed from Zimbabwe’s Joint Operations Command (JOC), many of the most senior Zimbabwe military personnel have been moved temporarily into areas where Mugabe’s Zanu-PF was badly beaten during the March elections.  I don’t believe that Mugabe himself is still in control of events; the old Marxist murderer looks decrepit, sick, tired and confused.  But there are ruthless brains, and massive resources behind the exercise to have Mugabe win the runoff.  The resources at least, include the weapons and ammunition shipped from China via Angola and Zambia after the March elections…  (See my earlier report.)

The man reputed to be heading up the JOC enforcement campaign is Emerson Munangagwa.  Munangagwa is the same man who, as State Security Minister during the 1980s, had direct political control of the infamous, North Korean trained, Fifth Brigade (New York Times, 1982).  During “operation gukurahundi”, (“the early rain which washes away the chaff before the spring rains”) these savages murdered at least 20,000 innocent men, women and children of the Ndebele tribe between 1983 and 1984.  Some people were buried alive and surviving relatives forced to dance on the graves…  (Tens of thousands more have died of starvation and AIDS since then, due to a slow burn genocide practised by the Mugabe regime.)  Munangagwa, like Mugabe, is a master of disinformation.

The savage who actually commanded these primitive barbarians during 1983/4 was Perence Shiri. Shiri is now Air Marshal in command of Zimbabwe’s Air Force.  But Shiri has temporarily moved to the east of the country to take charge of the military forces throughout the Manicaland Province.  (Shiri is Mugabe’s nephew and his gopher – it was Shiri who organised the land invasions by so called “war vets” in the late 1990s and early 2000, that led to Zimbabwe’s economic collapse.)  Neighbouring Mozambique reports a “massive exodus” of refugees streaming across the border.

So Zimbabwe has the same political/military team that led operation gukurahundi; two of the most evil and powerful people in Zanu-PF.

Military and police commanders openly support Zanu-PF and Mugabe.  Last Friday, Major General Martin Chedondo, Chief of Staff of Zimbabwe’s Army, joined other senior officers who have urged troops to vote for Mugabe and Zanu-PF (New York Times).  He was quoted as saying, “Soldiers are not apolitical… We have signed up and agreed to fight and protect the ruling party’s principles of defending the revolution. If you have other thoughts, then you should remove that uniform.”

Sadly, I must repeat my many predictions that Mugabe’s Zanu-PF will not allow any opposition party to win.  The same thing happened back in 1980, when Mugabe’s terrorists intimidated the naturally peace-loving Shona population into voting for them, instead of for their more moderate opponents…
