There is little doubt that the folks in Redmond are as nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs over Windows 8. Will it be the big hit that Windows 95 was, or the disaster that they faced with Windows ME? Either way, win or lose, Microsoft and Intel have an uphill battle on their hands.

Windows and X86 technology is dead, long live ARM

Is the clarion call by many in the technology sector. The allure of the big desktop has been replaced by small pocket sized devices.

OK enough of the dry and boring stuff! I’ll leave it to the geeks, I much prefer lighter fare.

This morning I stumbled upon this gem on YouTube:

Whoever came up with this idea should be congratulated. It really shows the shift in society’s interest in being anchored to a Windows box. I have to admit that my favorite part of the video is the homage to Kubrick’s 2001, the Apes inspiration touch of the Monolith. Oh how true!  Certainly end users were inspired when they picked up an iPhone.

The x86 C-Suite dullards missed that somehow.  Guess they didn’t make parole from Windows Prison.  The Wall Street gang is rumored to being using Windows 8 for something entirely original.  An indicator of risk assessment?  Wow, I’ll bet Microsoft didn’t expect that new use of their OS.

Technology changes over time, it grows, it evolves. We move forward. It is clear that terrestrial Windows based client computers (desktops and laptops) are becoming an endangered species. One wonders if the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) have considered opening a new branch to handle the potential extinction of some technology?  Oh well, perhaps the landfill is most appropriate!
