After reviewing more than 600 scientific journals, world renowned biologist Pushpa M. Bhargava concluded that genetically modified organisms are a major contributor to the sharply deteriorating health of Americans. In the first nine years after the large scale introduction of GMO crops in 1996, the incidence of people with three or more chronic diseases nearly doubled, from 7% to 13%.

Do you know how much genetically modified food you eat every day? Do you know which of the foods you eat everyday are genetically modified? Do you know whether your favorite restaurant uses genetically modified foods in the preparation of your favorite meals? Do you know the difference between genetically modified food and organic food?

David Suzuki, world renowned Canadian geneticist says, “The experiments simply haven’t been done [on genetically modified foods] and we now have become the guinea pigs. Anyone that says, ‘Oh, we know that this is perfectly safe,’ I say is either unbelievably stupid or deliberately lying.”

Soon after GMO soy was introduced to the UK, soy allergies skyrocketed by 50%. Ohio allergist Dr. John Boyles says, “I used to test for soy allergies all the time, but now that soy is genetically engineered, it is so dangerous that I tell people never to eat it.”

More than 25,000 brands of pesticides are available in the U.S., of which more than 400 chemicals are regularly used in conventional farming to kill weeds, insects and other pests that attack crops. If that number frightens you, consider this: non-organic apples can be sprayed up to 16 times with 36 different pesticides before being picked. Then the apples are sprayed with ethylene and covered with wax to make them look prettier.

The same holds true for the other GMO fruits and vegetables in your market. To illustrate the point, of all non-organic food items analyzed in a recent survey, the following were found to contain multiple (up to 36) pesticide residues:

  •     93% of oranges
  •     78% of apples
  •     43% of all fruit and vegetables
  •     50% of lettuce
  •     71% of cereal bars
  •     83% of oily fish (like tuna)

These pesticides cannot be washed off with water or clever new chemicals now sold in many stores. If you have tried any of the new chemical washes, you are just putting one more chemical on top of the pesticides. Pesticides sprayed in the fields for several months soak into the fruit or vegetable. If you have ever marinated any meat or vegetable, you already know that after a few hours, let alone days and weeks, the marinade cannot be washed off. The chemicals are there to stay.

As a result, we believe that the largest single change in anyone’s diet starts with facing the truth about genetically modified organisms and the pesticides used on crops. The dangers of GMOs are heightened by the addition of addictive GMO-based MSG, high fructose corn syrup and other food additives. GMO foods are dangerous cocktails consisting of as many as 300 different chemicals.

It is an ugly truth, but a truth that faces every one of us each time we order food at a fast food chain, our favorite restaurant or when we go shopping at our local supermarket.
