There are two very different stories emerging about Tiffany Hartley, one buys into the theory that a band of Mexican bandits, or drug dealers dispatched her husband to the nether world, while the pair were Jet Skiing on a Texas lake that acts as the border between Mexico and the US.
Those buying into this story include CNN’s junior partner HLN.
But is what Tiffany Hartley says the truth?
During our coverage of the Haleigh Cummings and Caylee Anthony case, we found that all might not be as it seems. One of our good friends became Peter Hyatt. Peter Hyatt has taken the Tiffany Hartley case in his Pit Bull jaws.
Peter specializes in a style of investigation that is used in many states, but is not as sexy as the CSI programs. He analysis the written word. Much can be gleaned from words. Like a ‘lie detector’ truth and deception become apparent. It is not so much a court room tool as an investigative tool. The way people talk, the active/passive or first person/third person use of language is a way to learn much information.
A more well publicized, but still science waiting for general acceptance in the halls of justice is the study of body language. Can the way someone acts give you clues? Yes it can!
What happens when you join these two skills together?
You take Peter Hyatt and Dr Lillian Glass, and put them on the same radio program. Two very different disciplines, yet two sciences that agree.
You can tune into what I suspect will be a wonderful program here at 6pm eastern.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackGreat article Simon. I wish you would reconsider your coverage of the Haleigh Cummings case, because I am afraid after Misty gets sentenced on the 19th in Putnam CO. that Haleigh’s case will go silent. She is still missing and needs to be found. The experts you have on your show about Tiffany Hartley would be fantastic in continuing the coverage for Haleigh. Both you and Jan did a wonderful job in keeping her name out there to the public. As far as Tiffany goes I watched her interview on Nightline and I was so distracted by her chewing her gum, that I found I could not concentrate on what she was saying. Her husband’s family stand behind her and that says a lot to me. It should be an interesting program.
Robin…I am a horrible judge of character-usually. However, I did catch Tiffany with the gum. For me, when she started chewing was after the difficult questions were asked. So I am not 100% sure of her innocence.
As far as writing that Simon reconsider his coverage of Haleigh, I must agree with that. I have read many reporters comments in the past few days, and how stupid are these people?? They are reporting that Misty will be sitting for 25 years. NOT the case. She got 25 years on 1 charge!!! More to come!!
I also would like to see Simon pick up on this investigation again. IF not to find Haleigh, then to keep the public aware of the truth with what is going on with this case.
My opinion is that Misty killed the little girl. And her only option is to sit in prison, unless she wants to be tried for murder.
Hello Robin, Boldone…. and Simon/Jan…
this case puzzles me as well. I just saw Tiffany being interviewed on JVM and she looks as cool and calm as the breeze behind her… no emotion, no tears, no shaking…
ummm… I smell a skunk….
and, I also agree with the first two posts… Simon, we need you and Jan to be our voice for HaLeigh.. this case goes colder by the minute. Where is baby HaLeigh??
Much thanks to Simon and Jan for their support for our first show.
It was a bit touch and go at the start as we began to wonder if Dr. Glass would make it on, but she was great.
I started the show partly because I miss Simon and Jan’s warm professionalism that began a nice habit through the Spring and Summer of 2010 where each Sunday evening we knew there would be a lively wrap up of some of the cases we care about.
(I also started the show out of frustration that media was not allowing dissenting voices about Tiffany Hartley)
Both Heather and I hope Simon and Jan return to the broadcasting…they are missed.
Peter Hyatt
PS:
Boldone,
I agree.
Misty (and tommy, perhaps) had reason to gamble on the drug sentencing rather than face up to what she did. She lost the gamble.
I too fear the case will go cold without Simon and Jan helping to keep it alive.
Heather and I plan to cover it, including analysis of lawyers’ statements, if that is all we have.
I would like to get Chelsea on. I have tough questions for her.
Hovertheshowman, though I’m not an expert like Dr. Glass, I didn’t see the video until after I finished the work on the transcripts. She had 9 solid indicators of deception on her first interview, and then the same (or more) on subsequent interviews.
Knowing that she was being deceptive helped me understand Dr. Glass’ analysis.
I’ve got full analysis of her interview with Greta and with Jane Velez Mitchell up and am looking for the complete transcript of the interview with Geraldo to put up analysis tonight or tomorrow at http://www.seamusoriley.blogspot.com

Peter Hyatt’s radio show was right-on!
I also enjoyed listening to the opinions of his guest.
He is not afraid to speak his mind and I agree
with him. I would go with BF.
TH wants DH body returned, so she can “go on” and she wants the culprits can “go on”, too!
I wonder if the culprit, is a BF, who she
does not want to finger? Just wants him to “go on”.
Did she break up with the BF before her upcoming move?
Is this why she isn’t interested in finding the killer?
Does she know who the culprit is and wants them
to return the body and “move on”?
Oh well so much for speculations.
The victim does not want justice, why not?
If my husband was murdered I would not be able to do a media blitz as she did. I find it disquisting.
Sort of reminds you of the media blitzes done by Scott/Drew Peterson, doesn’t it?
Yes, you would give marathon interviews, if you wanted donations.
Her sister has a FB page with an address for “donations” for DH and TH.
Donations for WHAT? They do not have children,
and do not need money for funeral services.
Why does TH need donations and for what?
The national media blitz is a direct reaction to the stories here in Texas that questioned the facts of the case. Those of us who were paying attention since day one have seen her change from the crying woman she was in local media to the rather stiff interview subject she is now. She was forced into more and more publicity in an effort to clear her name and find the body of her husband.
Falcon Lake does not “act” as the border. The border line runs through the lake which straddles the border. These sorts of events have been happening off and on for the last several years but this is the first reported death as a result of pirate attacks. Texas residents were warned as far back as two years ago of the danger and that public warning cost Texas a repeat stop on the Bass Masters Fishing Tournament.
I do not know if it happened the way she says it did. But, I won’t jump to conclusions based on how she interviews on some program either.
Kevin
TH seems genuine and honest to me. I don’t need a stupid lie detector test for that. There is always the person who wants to plays devil’s advocate. Peter needs to go and concentrate on Kyron’s stepmother.
Thank you Simon for this great article. As always you and Jan do a fantastic job covering cases. TH must have nerves of steel to remain so calm when she is interviewed. Not many people could hold up as well. I hope you will reconsider covering the Haleigh Cummings case.I feel once Misty is in prison on the drug charges the case will go cold.

Nice post Peter..and thank you for adding me to the P.S.!! I feel honored that you give my opinion a thought. Misty, has had to of killed Haleith. Nobody is taking the blame for Ron. She is going down for drugs because she doesn’t want to go down for murder. To me, its a no brainer what is going on!
1) I like you have tough questions for Chelsea. I too have some. Perhaps they are similar?? It would be natural for her to blame Ron as Misty is family. So I understand her blaming Ron instead of Misty. However,I still have questions.
I have followed this case so closely since it happened.
A sad, sad situation anyway you look at it.
Keep posting on here, I welcome your input.
Not sure how I get notified of messages on here. I only stop on when I think about checking updates.
As far as the Hartley case, per news media there are 2 suspects for the killing of David.
My opinion on this case has changed since I learned of that.
Perhaps Tiffany is more soft spoken laid back person, and this is her best at getting emotional??
I do wonder, though, what LE will do with these suspects. If they are part of the drug cartell, I believe LE in afraid as well.
Simon or Jan…how do I know when more posts are being posted here??
I tried IGoogle and it won’t take.
Is there a preference on here that I don’t know about that will notify me?
I see that IGoogle has too many n’s in .com.
Perhaps if this was fixed it would work as gadget.
I think we all need to put ourselves in her shoes.
You can’t just look at the fact that she was crying in the beginning and isn’t now. Imagine if what she is saying really happened, and now people are actually questioning your story and thinking you murdered your husband after you watched him get murdered. Her defense mechanisms are kicking in. Of course you’re not going to act normal (or what we think would be normal). I’d not only be devastated at losing my husband, but furious at what was happening to me. It’s no longer just about losing a loved one and obviously she can’t properly grieve.
I agree. That is why I have changed my mind.
I think we should give her the benefit of the doubt and give our sympathies to her. IF she had anything to do with it, LE will find out.
While I respect everyone’s opinion, I think it’s a bit early to come to the conclustion that this woman is a murderer.
Do I think I would act differently? Maybe. That’s what makes us all different. I myself prefer to grieve in private. We don’t know how she acts when the cameras are off.
How are we supposed to act anyway? I don’t know her or how she acts under normal circumstances, so based on that, I’m not about to start accusing what could be a grieving widow. I think I’ll wait to see what LE has to say.
If it’s proven that she had nothing to do with this, a lot of people are going to owe this lady an apology. The fact is if she is innocent, the ones that have judged before they have all the facts are committing career suicide in my opinion.
Tiffany’s quote of the day:
“Honestly, I don’t even care to have justice right now.” -MY SA NEWS
http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/mexico/hartley_family_says_theyre_not_leaving_without_david_104711294.html?showFullArticle=y
Please don’t allow this woman to take advantage of your sympathies.
It is exactly what she is counting on.
Remove yourself emotionally and I think
you will see.
Would you dare utter the quote above?
Shockwave:
Peter’s specialty is Statement Analysis. Terri Horman hasn’t uttered a word publicly since June 26. Can’t do a Statement Analysis on silence. That said, I only wish that Terri has the diahrrea of the mouth that Tiffany has.
Interesting comments. Personally, when I first saw the interview and heard of the story, she came across as a liar. I still think she is lying through her teeth and is making it up as she goes. Nothing adds up. I think she planned this. I also think from listening to her, that she has that same look and flat affect as Misty did. Something isn’t right about her. I know people react and act differently, but she puts out that strangeness that hits me in the gut. I think LE will find her out and hopefully sooner than later.
Her story is a delusional fabrication that is feeding her need for drama (that is my opinion). As far as the witness who saw the boats come up to her and then leave quickly, I think that could be true, but I also think that things are not what they seem. Perhaps they came up because her husband had went down on his boat or maybe it was her that shot him? Maybe they won’t come forward because they don’t want to get involved. Maybe it will be her word against theirs. I think she is scared shi…less right now that she will be caught. Remember Cindy Anthony’s gum chewing??? Says a lot. Chew, chew, chew, and less likely to open your mouth to say something you shouldn’t.
Can someone tell me where his jetski is? Did it disappear into thin air too?
So, did anyone consider that they ‘both’ planned this and that he got on the boat with these guys and is hiding out in Mexico? Maybe she can collect money?
Or, did anyone consider that ‘he’ planned this to get away from her? Maybe he had the guys in the boat ride up and make it seem like they shot him (right between the eyes like she said) knowing she would get scared and leave? Then he recovers the jet ski, takes off and is not seen again.
Maybe it was a drug deal gone bad?
Stranger things have happened ya know. People do all kinds of things for money, drugs, and whatever else reasons…(collecting funds for David?? really?)
JenM- Agreed 100%. You can hear in David’s mother’s voice the pain and anguish from losing her son. The wife on the other hand is talking about moving on after a few days? This is the cartel she was attacked by and there’s no fear in her voice?
“Honestly, I don’t even care to have justice right now.” -MY SA NEWS
I saw that. However, if you listen more, she states all she wants is her husband’s body returned. She doesn’t care about justice at this point.
I am on the fence on this one.
Could her & her husband be involved in the drug catrell??
Jet ski is still MIA.
Last report I heard they found the husband? Beheaded?? How wrong.
This poor women.
I hope for all those who bashed her wear egg on their face!
Rolando Flores, one of the lead investigators was found beheaded.
One of the investigators was found dead. That is really sad, but it may have nothing to do with this case and every thing to do with the drug cartels in that area retaliating against anyone poking around that area. Lets hope this gal hasn’t started a real war and getting people killed over a fabricated story. Lets hope its real. (Just like I try to have hope that Misty Cummings is telling all she knows too.)
Anyway, its very possible that her and her husband were involved in something (perhaps drug sales..)
But, Tiffany in one story says they were shooting at her as she escaped and then she tells another that they started speaking spanish, had a gun pointed at her and then suddenly spared her life and left and at that time she heard God telling her to leave.
So, why would they shoot the husband in the first place? (Always need a motive!) And why would they not shoot her? Surely they know she will tell and possibly identify them? Why would they risk that? Where did the jet ski go? Sorry, too many holes in the story…she isn’t telling all what happened. There is more to the story in my opinion.
No egg on the face if wrong, because people are found innocent who were thought guilty and people are found guilty who were thought innocent everyday. Not every story ‘has’ to be believed.
Pinkyandduhbrain, I agree, people get their sympathies played on and that is why we need LE and investigators that know their job well.
Interestingly enough, Tiffany tells of “3” boats. Didn’t the number three come up a lot with Misty? Do we know what time she says the incident occured?
Also, I looked at the interview again. A whole lot of lip licking (like Misty), uhm, uhm, uhm (like Misty), shoulder shrugging (like Misty) and inconsist stories (like Misty).
If my husband had his head shot and I had blood on my life jacket, I would be freaking out, thinking about the blood splattering and what his head looked like or his face, etc. But instead she talks about herself and what she was doing and its all about her (like Misty). Misty had to tell us about washing the blankets because they had pee on them. Why? Tiffany tells how God told her she had to leave the area and that God saved her. She gave all the reasons of why she couldn’t help her husband. She can’t recall what they looked like, but she remembers looking down the barrel of a gun. Why? I think she dissociated herself from the situation (just like Misty). Misty says she is telling the truth and God is on her side too. Tommy says that too.
Misty and Tommy have gone to great lengths to hide the drug issue, so maybe this is the case here too?
Geez, what to believe!!?
JenM- Agreed!!!
What do you think now that the lead investigators head was beheaded? Just because a person is the last person to see the missing or dead person doesn’t mean they are always the ones who committed the crime. This holds true in Misty Croslin’s case too. Just because she was the last person who supposedly saw Haleigh doesn’t mean she personally did something to her. She may have been scared and should have done more to help Haleigh, but I don’t think she killed her. Ron’s mom needs to stop breast feeding him, and so do the police officers.
YES I apologize. I only watched a glimpse of the news and I thought it was the husband who was beheaded. Sorry.
I believe this girls story. However, like JenM stated, and I have thought, was her and her husband somewhat involved in drug sales??
Hope not, and I hope after 2 weeks of interviewing people in the couples circle, the detectives would know by now if they were.
I believe this girl. Perhaps it took a horrible tradegy like this to happen before we opened out eyes to what is really going on with the drug catrell.
Shockwave- Good post! In the famous words of Ronald Cummings “let em fry”.
BOLDONES3- I believe Tiffany Hartly too, just not everything…something just doesn’t sit well…
Jan & Simon should go on. They have given up a chunk of their life in helping resolve the murder of Haleigh. For what? Misty sitting rotting in jail refusing to admit she killed the baby?? Accidentally probably.
Lilly…the wife didn’t kill the husband. I stand firm on that. But will we ever find out what really happened?? A LE tried to get near the story and his head was beheaded. Who wants to investigate now??
I agree and I feel really bad for his family. I don’t think we will ever know…just keep praying and hoping for miracles.
And hoping someone gets a grip on the drug cartell. I didn’t realize it was as serious as it is.
Great article Simon. I can’t wait to hear the show!
Tiffany is full of lies and more lies. Hopefully they stop her from going any further with this before more people are killed (beheaded). I think she knows exactly who killed her husband, and it wasn’t the Mexican drug cartel.
Just like the Mexican Mafia didn’t sneak into a trailer and steal Haleigh Cummings and just like the Mexican Nanny didn’t kidnap and kill Caylee Anthony and just like the Black Woman didn’t throw acid in the face of Bethany Storro.
These women are ill. They take a “real event” and make it part of their story. That makes it more credible, because people are emotional tied to them, such as racial issues and other current events (ie. drug cartel/wars, home invasions)
Pure fabrication and delusional on Tiffany’s part!
Barely 2 weeks after the horrible “death” of her young husband, Tiffany is able to chew gum, give a media blitz and casually and unemotionally leave the state and move to Colorado?? And, do what? The two of them wanted to move there. But, why is she so ready AND emotionally ABLE to move on with her life. Because that’s exactly what she’s doing. I think there’s something mentally wrong with her. She must not have loved him very much…I think their move to Colorado was to try and salvage their marriage. It was obviously so over and that’s why she’s not wasting any more time as the UNGRIEVING WIDOW.
So, what has happened with this story? Seems it faded away….sad.
I think Tiffany is hiding something, and I think Misty is too stupid to kill a little girl, but Haleigh was definitely killed, maybe accidentally? Though I can’t say Ron is entirely innocent. Given his abusive nature, he would beat Misty into telling the truth about what happened to his daughter. And, she would buckle under his threat, then he’d turn her in. He could careless about Misty’s self-worth. So, she did not kill her; and he knows what happened.
