This was another surprising program. I am glad to act as host and let my guests educate me. Joining me on the panel were my good friends and very smart research and writing team Mannie Barling and his wife Ashley Brooks. Our initial idea was to spend the time talking about that colorless, orderless, and tasteless substance that we all take for granted, water.

Of course this did not happen, but that is the joy of live radio.

The BP Gulf oil spill is a far larger ecological disaster than many people realize. The likes of CNN and FOX have moved on, there are new stories to cover. In someways even the Fed’s would prefer for this story to die. BP have very deep pockets, however money spent in the Gulf clean up effort is money not going to shareholders. In fact I do believe that BP has reassigned one ‘higher up’ to exile in the wilds of Siberia as a direct result of the Gulf fiasco.

In reality, what we  are seeing is a ‘knee jerk’ response. When something doesn’t work your way, you find a Patsy and blame them. It is a natural reaction, I do it to my wife. If she doesn’t like my cooking, I blame her for buying the products!

There is a huge difference between Jan and I bantering about a dish though and what is being served up in the Gulf.

Joining us on the program was Kindra Arnesen. Her family has fished the Gulf for many years.

The first job I had was shucking Oysters at age twelve.

Kindra and some other friends decided to start a non-profit, it had nothing to do with the Deep Horizon BP problem. The Coastal Heritage Society Of Louisiana was designed as a group of people that merely wanted to preserve the history of the region. It was Hurricane Katrina that brought this group of soccer moms together. However it was the Deep Water BP disaster that has galvanized the group into a cohesive force to be reckoned with.

What is clear is that this bunch of soccer moms are PO’d! .

Recently there was a huge fish kill at the western side of the Mississippi basin. Hundreds of thousands of fish, including a baby whale created a surreal situation. Fish kills happen around the globe, often there is no scientific explanation for them. Was this one a natural phenomena, or a direct result of BP?

I posed this question to the panel. To summarize Kindra Arnesen:

We went out there, fish kills do happen, but mile after mile I saw Red Fish on the surface, I also saw the sheen of oil. Fish tend to dive under the boat, but these fish were upside down, gasping for air, and crashing into the side of the boat.

It has been hot in the region, and oxygen in the water does become depleted which in turn causes distress to the fish population. But what about the sheen, what about the dispersant used, these too may also be lowering the oxygen levels in the area.

As Kindra Arnesen was talking it was apparent that she had a cough. Ashley Brooks who is a Registered Nurse picked up on this and asked some questions. The answers were unnerving to say the least.

A persistent cough seems to be prevalent in the geographic area. It would take a leap of faith to think that it can be attributed to a ‘summer cold’ that lasts for months!

The cough is just one problem. Many other health issues seem to be coming to light in the region. Kindra Arnesen and her CHSL group are doing what they can to bring this to the attention of everyone. Alas much of what they are saying is being ignored by the main stream media, and government at the federal level.

Also very disconcerting is the assertion that neither the federal agencies nor BP are testing air and water samples for the obvious compounds likely to be found when you have a huge amount of crude oil and a huge amount of dispersant!

Independent testing is also coming into question.

What is wrong with this picture?

I do ask everyone to please listen to the recording of this program. If you live in the Gulf region you need to understand what is happening, and how you can fight back. If you live somewhere else, it is just as important, you need to understand the potential of that ticking time bomb that may be in your back yard.
