We will be running our regular Saturday program at 1pm eastern, 10am pacific.
My panel will consist of the husband and wife team of researchers and authors Mannie Barling and Ashley Brooks.
We are also going to be joined by Joannie Hughes from the Coastal Heritage Society Of Louisiana. Joannie will be giving us an update on the BP oil spill. Oh, don’t think this is an old story, don’t for one minute think this is old news. Sure the Feds and BP are crowing over the fact that the well has been sealed. But the damage is just starting.
I’ll pose a question to you all. Oops, no I won’t, I’ll save it for the program. Well, OK, I’ll share a part of the question, who sits on the panels of agencies like the FCC, FDA, and just about every other government agency you can name? Does being a wazoo leader of an industry that makes money make you an expert in regulation? I view it as glorified Lobbyists.
In the second section of the program we will be talking Frankenfish! What are the problems, what are the dangers, what are the solutions.
It was from a classic child’s book that I pull the line “Eat Me”. Alice In Wonderland was a mere preview of modern life. The author Lewis Carol (pen name) offered a way for Alice to grow big. Is this what we are seeing with GMO Salmon? What are we really getting with the ‘Super Salmon’?
What happens when these ‘modified’ fish hit the real world? Do we end up with the rather fun movie ‘Deep Blue’? I don’t think so. The Silver Carp issue, and the Zebra Muscles should give everyone pause for thought.
It is easy to say “this is not impacting me”. There was a time where I would have said the same thing. The idea that Frankensalmon might even get into the wild appalls me, The idea that it might even be sanctioned and signed off by our government makes my blood run cold.
This truly is fish pharming. It’s just the splicing of a growth gene into the fish, it will grow 12 months of the year, rather than a seasonal natural growth, bigger better Salmon! Oh sure I will buy into this!
The next idiocy will be that we have new shrimp from the Gulf. No oil will be needed in the cooking process, the oil has been infused already!
Sorry folks, but I just do not buy into all of this.
I do hope that you will join us for what is likely going to be a very lively discussion. Saturday, 1pm eastern, set your dial here.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackI’ve never heard if the Fraken fish it sounds scary.
I wouldn’t touch Frankenfish with a ten foot pole (no pun intended). Hey, if our soy products are mimicking estrogen and little boys are developing boobies…and little girls are coming into puberty at 8 yrs. old, imagine what the frankenfish might do. Kids will probably reach peak growth in half the time, and will be twice as large.
Has anybody see those huge 5 lb. papayas? I wonder if they are GMO? They scare me!
And I read somewhere a while back that there is no natural soy anymore. Seems it’s all been GMO’d with tree nuts. Then we wonder why so many children are developing asthma. And our corn is like 75% GMO’d. Oh my, these subjects are totally upsetting to me. I don’t know if I dare listen in tomorrow. LOL!
