According to a recent report the number of cases being filed across Madison County has surged recently, with around fifty percent of cases in the Law Division of the Third Judicial Circuit this year being new asbestos related lawsuits.

The research was carried out by the Manhattan Institute this week, but the results go against the general flow, as other results show that the levels of asbestos related lawsuits across the nation are falling.

Law Division cases are those that seek damages that come to more than fifty thousand dollars, not including costs and interest. According to the figures, close to fifty two percent of cases that come into this category in Madison County are asbestos related cases.

Madison County Circuit Judge Daniel Stack said he wasn’t sure why the increase had occurred. He said: “No judge wants his docket to increase.” However, he added: “As long as the cases are appropriate and belong here, the increase does not bother me.”
