With President Vladimir Putin declaring that the objective of his upcoming visit to New Delhi this week is to strengthen “our strategic relationship”, Russia and India are all set to enter into a whole new stage of cooperation in the civil nuclear area including in the construction of new reactors, supply of fuel and transfer of reprocessing technology.

“We intend to help India directly in construction of atomic energy facilities for peaceful use. On top of that some of our companies are very much interested in acquiring large contracts for the construction of new facilities. On various occasions we provided India with nuclear fuel. And we will help in settling her problems in international affairs with the provision that Russia will abide by international obligations,” Putin, who will be the chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations on Friday, said in an interview

An agreement between the Russian and Indian governments is being prepared for signing on the construction at the Kudankulam nuclear power station of additional reactors and also the construction of atomic stations at new sites in India,’ Ivanov said in Bangalore, according to agency. Russia is already building two reactors at Kudankulam in southern India.
