In preparation for the White Sands Film Festival, which begins in Alamogordo, New Mexico, on February 21, the festival judges have named the winners of this year’s festival awards.

The White Sands Best of Festival Award was given to The Highest Step in the World, a 46-minute documentary about U.S. Air Force “pre-astronauts” in the post-war era. Paperboat, an 18-minute comedy/drama, won the Alamogordo Women’s History Award for the Best Film from a Woman Producer or Director. The director of Paperboat, Daphne Lambrinou, was the winner of the Judges’ Choice Award for Best Director.

The Judges’ Choice Award for Best Drama/Comedy was given to Run Robot Run!, a low budget independent science fiction comedy drama by Canadian director Daniel O’Connor. Run Robot Run! was O’Connor’s feature directing debut. The cast of the film includes Chris Gibbs, Lara Kelly Peter Mooney and Christian Potenza.

The White Sands Film Festival runs from February 21 to February 25. More information can be found on the festival website.
