The political news site is running an interesting article about Rudy Giuliano, there are assertions being made that between 1999 and 2001 while mayor of New York City he billed thousands of dollars in travel expenses for his extra marital fling with Judith Nathan. Using New Yorks Freedom Of Information law, Politico contends that Giuliani hid many of the actual expenses by billing them through obscure government agencies. At best this is some misleading accounting, at worst it was a deliberate attempt to use city money for private purposes.

The documents obtained by Politico, are supposedly American Express bills and travel documents, detailed hotel, gas and other costs for Giuliani’s security detail for trips to Southampton, N.Y. The woman with whom Mr. Giuliani was having an affair, Judith Nathan,  had a condominium in that Long Island beach community.

Needless to say the Giuliano camp is calling the thing ‘rubbish’ and flatly denying any wrongdoing “I have nothing to do with the handling of their records,” Giuliani responded when the question was raised at last nights Republican debate.

At this stage of the lead up to Iowa in January no candidate wants to have the skeletons brought out of the cupboard, and this one can certainly do nothing but harm to his chances of success. It will be interesting to watch this story unfold.
