Rick Sanchez Fired?
Rick Sanchez was one of my favorite commentators. I was startled to learn that he had been fired by CNN for what were viewed as controversial statements. To put things a bit in perspective when I was a kid (WWII era), Jews were excluded from most social and business activities in the U.S. My grandfathers both protested in their times and with the Holocaust things changed. It is ironic now that an Hispanic is the one shot down. Certainly it is true that Jews have done well in this country since the bad days of WWII and they do in fact run many things — best and worst. Our U.S. support of Israeli abuse of the Palestinians ranks with their mistreatment back when in Europe and here in the U.S. It is in slow motion, not dramatic mass murder, but it is killing kids nevertheless whenever Israel retaliates. Remember the destruction of Lebanon and the treatment of Gaza now.
Sanchez was speaking the truth. Had his target been the National Rifle Association, he would still be with us. This firing worries me because I know too many — liberals included — who are quietly anti-Semitic. One cannot defend Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians and many caring Jews are responding to that and being accused of being anti-Semitic. Sanchez seems now to have been included among those who tell us the truth.
*********************
Rick Sanchez has been fired from CNN following his controversial comments on a radio show Thursday.
“Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company. We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well,’ a CNN statement said.
Sanchez did not appear on the air Friday.
Appearing on “Stand Up with Pete Dominick” Thursday, Sanchez called Jon Stewart a “bigot” and said that CNN and the other networks are all run by Jewish people.
Discussing Stewart with radio host Pete Dominick, Sanchez said that the “Daily Show” host has a limited worldview, and called him a “bigot.”
The conversation began with Sanchez decrying “elite, Northeast establishment liberals” who “deep down, when they look at a guy like me, they see a guy automatically who belongs in the second tier, and not the top tier.
“I think to some extent Jon Stewart and [Stephen] Colbert are the same way. I think Jon Stewart’s a bigot,” he said. “I think he looks at the world through, his mom, who was a school teacher, and his dad, who was a physicist or something like that. Great, I’m so happy that he grew up in a suburban middle class New Jersey home with everything you could ever imagine.”

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackI don’t know if what he said is true or not. But I thought that here in America a person could say what they thought. We don’t have to agree. It’s getting just like Russia. Be afraid people. Be afraid….
Sorry, Carol-in-VA, you cannot diss your own employer in public and then expect that employer to sign your checks.
What PLANET does your brain live on?
Jon Stewart is a BIGOT and I am not taking it back.
Jews do control the US media. The speed of Rick’s firing proves that. Boycott CNN.
I hate it when CNN fired the staff that we like the most what happened to the freedom of speech in this country ?
Rick’s show on CNN was refreshing and vibrant compared to the others. It’s a shame to see him leave and I hope something much better comes his way. I really liked Jon Stewart but if his Jewish connections got Rick fired then he’s really no better than the jerks he criticizes on his show.
There more people who are far much worse than rick Sanchez out there- Fox news is has the most notorious anchors; Rich is ar much better than them.
The lesson here is that you are free to say whatever you please but there may be consequences.
@ Carol in VA – also “here in America” a business can fire people if it feels they are acting against its interest. Or for any reason, civil liberties issues aside. Are you suggesting we need government intervention to determine proper firing guidelines? Are you suggesting this was racial discrimination? Just what exactly is the offense? Rick still has the right to say what what he thinks – no one has taken that from him.
You are right that every person can say what he wants but not when you are a commentator on tv and a public figure.
His comments were 100% anti-Semitic
People really need to read what the First Amendment truly states. Freedom of speech protects you from lawful prosecution not from being fired from your job! He is a reporter and should keep opinions to him self. His freedom has not been trampled. He spoke what he felt and cannot be prosecuted from the law but can be FIRED. Please READ and EDUCATE YOURSELF.
Sanchez was the smartest person on CNN next to Amanpour. I am outraged that he was fired for stating the obvious. Privately Jewish people are proud of their accomplishments, but when a goyim points it out, or makes the true statement that their self-description as an eternally endangered and oppressed minority is hooey – he or she is lambasted by a very over-used all purpose phrase, “anti-Semitic” and they are punished severely. I have been a fan of Jon Stewart for years and think he is intelligent and insightful, but speaking as a fan, in recent months, as he becomes more of a public figure rather than the host of a satiric show, he is jumping the shark.
I am a Latino and American. But there is an old saying in America “you don’t bite the hands that feed you”.
I beleive Rick Sanchez was wrong in his statements. Why should I as his employer stand for that? I as a Latino would have fired him too. Mr. Sanchez went to far.
There is no question that is arguements had merit. I as a Latino have been in the same situation.
That being said. He had so much influence on his show, I cannot believe someone could be so stupid. He was pissed off because his show was being cancelled. Right, but as a proffessional you just don’t do what or say what he did, period.
I lost my influence too. But, I never did what he did. I left with my head held high. With RESPECT for myself because NOONE stood up for me or backed me up and that is what made me bitter.
Rick Sanchez is a moron, I laughed so hard I almost pissed my pants when I found out he was fired. Maybe Ill start watching CNN again now (probably not). The best part is he is smart enough to realize that jews control the media but then he rips on them. Have fun in the unemployment line you racist.
Cnn lags so far behind foxnews that this change won’t matter to very many, imo.
If you think free speech
Cnn lags so far behind foxnews that this change won’t matter to very many, imo.
Cnn hired elliot spitzer for crying out loud, they are desperate.
If you think free speech doesn’t have consequences, try screaming the ‘n’ word in compton or harlem as a white guy and see how much it costs you…and it should. You diss your employer , you pay the price.
Rick was energetic and a good show host, I’m sure he will land elsewhere and be just fine.
Ok – come on.
Are you all really saying, if any of you went on a radio show and insulted your employer, you would all be fine and dandy? I work in CHicago, its a fire for any cause state. Not sure about New York.
Sure – Stewart made fun of him, hes a comedian on COMEDY CENTRAL that does a FAKE news SHOW. the fact that Sanchez is a REAL news anchor on CNN and said “He’s (Stewart) upset that someone of my ilk is almost at his level,” is just plain rediculous. And to question whether jews should really be a minority? Have you seen the statistics? What does that have to do with running everything or how they treat people other places than America? They are still a minority here!!! Sure, Rick was a good reporter, but his statements were out of line. Plain and simple. Stewart’s might be also….. but HES ON COMEDY CENTRAL!!!!!!
I think, that ego of Mr. Jon Stewart is bigger that God mercy and Ms. Rick Sanchez firing is an
example of this.
Anyone must be responsible of what he says so as to asume…
I wish people would read carefully what I have to say. When I was a kid anti-Semitism was a horror. One of my grandfathers was the first to
open graduate studies in his field to Jews. Now they are doing well here — and running many of our media and corporations. So . . .?
Firing Rick is an extension of the anti-Hispanic stuff that has been the media focus of late.
Jews took a long time to make sure that they’re in control of the media. As well as most major banks, so they could control information, and politicians.
Can’t let a man like Sanchez to start unraveling it all, can they? Does anyone remember how proud Jews were in getting Lou Dobbs fired? They were so happy. Dancing like
the Mossad spies danced when the Twin Towers fell. The problem of bigots and anti-semitics is that they don’t trust Jews. That is so wrong. Jews experienced so much hatred in Europe, so many people hated them. Claiming the same thing Sanchez said. Does’t this prove how bigoted Sanchez is? To tell lies like all Europeans did?
Facebook is a social network collecting information on all young people. Are people going to start imagining Jews also control this database on young people around the world? Was he going to become even more bigoted and racist on the air?
Don’t you how dangerous Sanchez was? It wasn’t the Jews who fired him at CNN. It was the priests in charge, wasn’t it?
People just aren’t sensitive like Jews are. They are a victim race. Always finding enemies no matter where they live or with who? But I can’t figure out why?
I’m a little surprised. Rick has been offending me for years yet he stayed safe, crying over every illegal alien he ever met, laughing at the Tea Party by calling them “tea baggers,” and looking for racists in the Tea Party while he had talking heads CALLING ME a racist and a bigot because I was against illegal immigration.
In this instance it was Rick who came off as the “bigot” and I think that’s true. I think Rick was 9 when he came here and he always remained a “CUBAN FIRST.” Rick was too in my face, too biased for anyone who spoke Spanish, too macho, and his world view was not mine. The man appeared arrogant.
With the spread of Islam and global interface the world view has become that all minorities are oppressed and must be kowtowed to, Britain and America’s colonialism has stolen from the third-world and must be paid back, and that Muslims are the “new Jews.” Yes, my friends, antisemitism is coming back, rushing across the pond to rear its ugly head.
Rick’s view was more global than American, more Hispanic than American and I’m glad to see him go. I wish the man no ill will but now that Cuba is loosening up he might get a job there where he can glory in his native tongue and call us all names.
OK OK you’re right you can and probably will get fired for saying something that is true but makes the powers that be angry. I guess I had in mind the “spirit of the Law.” News people are always interjecting their opinions nowadays. Also, I wish everyone would grow up and not be so touchy. I wouldn’t fire someone if they worked for me and said that I was “fat.”
Wake up,all latinos out there, because you are a minority your not free to criticize(and telling the truth)about the Jewish hegemony.
To the Jews in USA;what will you do when your country have another and more hostile majority?
I am sorry for rick, prefer rick over wolf or the new guys on the show, will use BBC for new.
America is a country of free speech, agree that offending people is not right, but suspension could be good, now CNN has lost many good anchors Lou Dobbs, and now Rick,
Please join the union, get unionized like the actors, players and workers. that is to strong a punishment.
Imus got fired saying “nappy headed ho” and I don’t remember anyone saying that that is proof blacks run the media. If Sanchez had burned a Koran he’d be fired too. Gee, does that mean Muslims run the media?
How could Rick get fired, he is a great newsperson and nobody is perfect, too bad we can’t fire the people who makes the decision to fire they are just as bad or even worse then the words Rick said. Rick God bless you and keep pushing forward its there loss. I won’t be watching cnn.
Jewish people are, pound for pound, the most well off people in the United States. A great percentage are college educated and have professional occupations. They are incredibly disproportionately represented in government and the media. what’s the freaking big whoop? Everybody knows this. At worst, these simple facts tend to suggest high achievement and perhaps a bit of nepotism, not too bad really. But, when you fire someone for pointing it out it looks EVIL and oppressive.
shame on CNN , from now on I will not trust this network..Why? well look to me that they want to control what a news man ,want to say , where is the free an independent reporter,he will tell the story acording what the executive of CNN want.I’m not a Rick fan but I defend. his right of free spech.I wonder what the rest of CNN comentator think.
As a black man that has worked at CBS, ABC and other media companies, as the “token” executive. I have seen first hand these companies routinely discriminate against minorities in hiring, promotion and salary on a very consistent basis. It’s all very subtle; they want to create the appearance that they are fair and equal. Nothing could be further from the truth! No, Mr. Sanchez’s firing was no surprise to me and the hundreds of monitories working in media today. It’s unfortunate he lost his very high profile position at CNN for expressing himself honestly and without all the politically correct BS. As you can plainly see…not many Hispanic’s on the air at CNN.
media personalities make comments critical of their bosses all the time. look at all the fox cracks on the simpsons. stewart disses his network, as does letterman.
all sanchez said was that considering the power the jewish lobby holds, they’re not really an oppressed minority.
they proved his point by firing him immediately. i don’t give a rat’s butt about rick sanchez, but such bullying makes me dislike mainstream media and stewart even more. jon stewart is getting too big.
The jewish lobby is the most powerfull lobby in the USA. They also own the media as well. The speed at which Santez was fired for such insignificant reasons is proof of this.
CNN Who in their right mind watches CNN??
Rick made only one wrong choice and that was to join CNN. CNN is nothing but trash media
am very sorry to see rick sanchez fired.sad to see racism at cnn like this.he was my favorite.
larry king puts me to sleep lady who just had twins a while back seems mean hearted the rest ok.but will try to watch nbc abc cbs instead
fox very biased dont like
As a Chicano, I can empathize with Rick Sanchez’ opinions regarding the “secondary” role that he, as well as other Latinos, play in today’s media world. True for us as well as for other minority folks. Although truth be told, Cuban-Americans have actually risen higher in the ranks of corporate America based on the perception that they are more assimilated because of their anti-Castro history and their adoption by the right-wing political gentry of America in many aspects of Americana. Too bad he didn’t go after Stewart and other “bigots” with some of the same artillary, mainly sarcasm and wit! C’mon Rick, let’s use the wit and comedic talent that us Latinos are blessed with. We may still get fired, but at least let’s give them a good shot before we get the boot! Un amigo, Agapito
Other then for breaking news I will no longer watch CNN/!!!Everything is repeated so many times I have slowly moved away. Rick, you were the best of the lot..The others don’t hold a candle to you. I loved the way you always explained things so even a layman could understand. You were right in what you said Rick but in your heart I think you now know it was best left unsaid. I will follow you whereever you go and wish you luck
Sorry to see Rick go,,, I thought he was honest,, never got blown off his feet during Hurricanes,,, just a stand up guy,,, so to speak.
As for CNN,, ya,,, that was probably the last straw for me,, and now SPITZER is on at that time frame?,, Give me a break!!! And for what its worth, there are too many running the show.
PeaceOut
No more CNN for me. Rick knew the consequences i’m sure. He should’ve known that stewart is a comedian and all comedians make their living by mocking other celebs…Rick is smart and will be OK. He can join Bill Maher; im sure Bill didn’t take it personal. Who doesn’t have bias views on other races? We all have it in us because of the what we hear or our environment we live in. And it’s fed to us by the media itself. All networks report news in a partial manner and that’s how people become bias. For example, news from conflicts around the world are reported to the convenience of the networks and the government. We Americans are so misinformed. We only hear one side of the story about conflicts around the world. The scary part is that many of us believe everything we see on TV…
RICK WAS RIGHT,JEWS DO CONTROL THE MEDIA,THE CONGRESS,THE SENATE.WHATS BOTHER ME THE MOST WHEN YOU INSULT CATHOLIC,MUSLEMS,YOU DONT GET FIRED,BUT GOD FORBIDE YOU SAY ANYTHINGS ABOUT JEWS.I WILL NEVER WATCH CNN AGAIN.SPITZER TOOK RICK PLACE,WHAT A SHAME.
This the US, FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND ALL THAT BULLS…, yeah rigth, welcome to UNITED STATED OF ISRAEL. moron or not he tell the true.
– “Sanchez was the smartest person on CNN next to Amanpour”
Since Sanchez has the IQ of a small houseplant (and demonstrates it on a regular basis) that doesn’t really say much for CNN, does it?
I understand why this has been in the pipeline, if indeed it has been.
Rick always came across to me as anti-white and very sarcastic.
He is a far left self absorbed person that just got lucky when he got the CNN gig.
The country, CNN, and the viewers are better off with this guy off the air.
I miss Rick, I can’t watch the new show. Parker and what’s her face suck. Freedom of speech does not play into anything anymore. Bring Rick back. Fox is 100% Republican so I won’t watch it. So now I watch msnbc and not cnn.
