Waa’s Campaign for APRC Candidate: My Analysis; Not a Judgment
By Yankuba Jambang,Associate Editor
The news of Lamin Waa Juwara’s campaign for the ruling APRC candidate, Essa Saidykhan came as a surprise to many people. Well, politics is full of surprises; politics is also not only confined to participating parties but can includes individual politicians of different ideologies but with one goal!
What’s all the fuss and furies about Waa’s support for a particular candidate under the APRC’s banner? He is entitled to his opinion and has a right to support any political party(ies). However, I would find it difficult to understand if Lamin Waa Juwara were to support the candidacy of Yahya Jammeh. Waa, I believe, can support Essa Saidykhan’s candidature to the National Assembly if:he [Waa] believes that Essa can speak for the people Dankunku; influence some ideological changes within the rank and file of the APRC MPs in the House. Suppose these are some of the reasons Mr. Juwara is campaigning for his long time political friend; is that enough reason for one to castigate and vilify him as a betrayer, prostitute, etc? I respectfully disagree with anyone who believes otherwise.
Politics is not all about a party and it’s Chief executive (the president), it’s also about different individuals and their character traits that influence voting. For example; in the recent US Mid Term elections Senator Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut was re-elected based on his personality and not on the Democratic party. Ousainou Darboe can’t win but his other candidates did win in many parts of the country.
Waa has suffered a lot in Gambian politics and he deserves our respects and I am not aware of him seeking power when he was in UDP or NADD. It’s time for rational thinking. Remember, this is Politics.
