Patrick Swayze, 55, was diagnosed with pancreatic Cancer in March with reports to the public that the actor was near death. Now his doctors are saying he has small amounts of cancer that is being treated with chemotherapy which he is responding quite well to. They say he will be ok to return to work.

Swayze shot a pilot in January in the 13 hour long episode series, called The Beast which A&E has picked up. It is set to go into production this summer in Chicago according to The Hollywood Reporter Trade Paper. It is expected to premiere in early 2009.

“I have searched for quite a long time to find a character that is this multilayered, unpredictable and downright entertaining as well as a project this current and cutting-edged,” Swayze said Saturday.

A&E’s executive vice-president Bob DeBitetto told the New York Times that they have had soken with Swayze and his doctors and are convinced that he will be good to work for a full production schedule. They had considered recasting Swayze’s role but everyone that saw the pilot thought he was the better one for the part.

Swayze made it big with his movie Dirty Dancing as a dance teacher, Johnny Castle, in 1987 and then in 1990 in the Academy Award Winning movie Ghost which I personally believe has the most romantic love scene ever with his co-star Demi Moore.
