ELLE magazine declares that the pampered pooch has replaced the SUV as a status symbol…

The ultimate status symbol of the ’90s – the luxury SUV – has officially been declared out of vogue by Al Gore. In its place comes a style signifier that’s smaller, eco-friendlier, and requires slightly more maintenance – the pampered urban pooch.

And the pampered pooches this year are wearing…PINK poochie

Yup, it’s Pet Fashion week in the Big Apple…

And if you think Puffy in the photos is bad, CNN has more photos HERE

It’s a real money maker:

The pet industry is worth some $40 billion a year, including $16 billion a year in pet food, $20 billion in veterinarian bills and medicine, and almost $4 billion in toys, clothes, and dog-sitters.

Yup, the end of Western civilization is near at hand…

Except that pampered pooches are also becoming the rage in Japan.

The Philippines is starting to catch up, with the smart set buying lapdogs.

But here upcountry, we also love dogs…especially stewed.

No, I’m joking. Up here nearly everyone owns a large dog for protection. We have five (and one small dog for my granddaughter).

But if you come to a fiesta and get served a dark tender meat stew, better not ask what the meat is. It might be Fluffy.
