Wednesdays bloody rampage that left 8 people dead shocked the country. Another senseless waste of life. The now ubiquitous surveillance cameras captured footage of 20 year old Robert Hawkins entering the Von Maur department store where he appeared to look  around for a short time and then leave. Six minutes later, he returned carrying something wrapped up in a hoodie, his package it turned out was a loaded riffle.

In the blink of an eye, carnage took place, when the shooting had stopped there were eight people who would not get to see Christmas. He then turned the rifle on himself.

It turns out the Robert Hawkins left a suicide note, and The Smoking Gun has obtained a copy of it. In it Hawkins includes the pitiful statement “I can’t take this meaningless existence anymore. I’ve been a constant disappointment and that trend would have only continued”.

Hindsight being what it is, 20/20 we now start to see the familiar pattern of a troubled youth. He spent years growing up as a ward of the court. He suffered from bouts of severe depression and Attention Deficit Disorder. Yet nothing was done to prevent this tragic loss of life.
