After their victories in Ohio and Texas last week, the Clinton campaign started publicly stating that they are open to the idea of selecting Barack Obama as her running mate. When asked about running with Obama Clinton said, “Well that may be where this is headed but we have to decide who is top of the ticket. I think the people of Ohio very clearly said that it should be me.â€
Clinton said on the campaign trail, “I’ve had people say I wish I could vote for both of you, well, that might be possible someday.†Bill Clinton also got in on the act by saying, “If you put those two things together, you’d have an almost unstoppable force.†This is obviously a strategy by the Clinton campaign to create the perception among voters that the delegate count doesn’t matter. The campaign is looking to recreate the illusion that the nomination of Hillary Clinton is inevitable.
While campaigning today in Mississippi, Obama sliced through this latest Clinton façade. “I don’t know how somebody who is in second place is offering the vice presidency to the person who is first place. I don’t want anybody here thinking that somehow, ‘Well, you know, maybe I can get both.’ Don’t think that way. You have to make a choice in this election.†Like George W. Bush, Hillary Clinton is a master at not letting the facts get in the way of her view of reality.
Both Clinton and Obama view themselves as top candidates, and I can’t see either one of them ever playing second banana to the other. This campaign long ago turned bitter. These two have no warmth or affection for each other. The truth is that Clinton needs Obama on her ticket, more than Obama could ever be helped by Clinton as V.P. The Clintons bring too much baggage. Keeping the Clintons around for a fall campaign would take away from Obama’s message of change.
To me, this is a desperate tactic by the Clinton campaign. In a way, it seems that they have not grasped the reality that many Democratic voters may not want a return to the 1990’s. Unless Clinton cuts a backroom deal, Obama stands a solid chance of being the Democratic nominee. Clinton would be better served to make the case for why she should be the nominee, instead of pretending that the V.P. slot is hers to offer.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackI appreciate your post. I am still trying to understand how even the most loyal Clinton supporters are either ignorant or apathetic to what is going on. I am not claiming Obama is perfect, but, akmost anyone would be better than this _____.
Breaking News!!! Major Political Scandal!!!
Large numbers of Republicans have been voting for Barack Obama in the DEMOCRATIC primaries, and caucuses. Because they feel he would be a weaker opponent against John McCain. And because they feel that a Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama ticket would be unbeatable.
Hillary Clinton has actually won by much larger margins than the vote totals showed. And lost by much smaller vote margins than the vote totals showed. Her delegate count is actually much higher than it shows. And higher than Obama’s. HILLARY CLINTON IS ALREADY THE TRUE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE!
As much as 30% of Obama’s primary, and caucus votes are Republicans trying to choose the weakest democratic candidate for McCain to run against. These Republicans have been gaming the caucuses where it is easier to vote cheat. This is why Obama has not been able to win the BIG! states primaries. Even with Republican vote cheating help.
If Obama is the democratic nominee for the national election in November he will be slaughtered. Because the vote cheating help will suddenly evaporate. All of this vote fraud and republican manipulation has made Obama falsely look like a much stronger candidate than he really is.
The democratic party needs to fix this outrage. I suggest a Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama ticket now! All democrats need to throw all your support to Hillary Clinton. So you can end this outrage against YOU the voter, and against democracy.
Fortunately the Clinton’s have been able to hold on against this fraudulent outrage with those repeated dramatic comebacks of Hillary Clinton’s. Only the Clinton’s are that resourceful, and strong. Hillary Clinton is your NOMINEE. They are the best I have ever seen.
You should be angry America. “This is not a game” (Hillary Clinton)
Sincerely
jacksmith…
Is JackSmith smoking crack or what??? The only way for Billary to win is by stealing it!! Second place offering first place a piece of the pie…that’s mighty white of her-huh? The Clinton’s are the most dishonest people I have seen in a long time…I still remember her saying she wouldn’t be a Tammy Winette if she caught her man cheating-shows you how good her word is.
Where is this experience that she has to be president, I don’t recall her being elected president before. You only get experience by doing-not watching or we would all be doctors since over our lives we have watched them enough.
It now seems she doesn’t have the foreign policy experience she keeps trying to convince everyone she has either. Having your picture taken at a photo-op isn’t being commander-n-chief, it just makes you someone who has had your picture taken. Oh, I’m sorry I forgot she is the front runner correct?
It now seems people who were involved in the things she claims as her own accomplishments are starting to come forward and expose her mistruths. Ask her about the Serbian peace keeping work she claims, it seems no one else involved remembers it like her. How come she didn’t get the Nobel Prize for her work like the others involved with it?
Good thing she brought us health care when Bill was in office or we might have to figure out what to do with health care now.
If she is only a jr. senator how did she become so experienced? It seems she has only been in the senate one term longer than Obama, does that give her so much more experience than him?
really curious where jacksmith is pulling his info from.
I did find this:
http://blog.cleveland.com/openers/2008/03/gop_voters_crossing_over_in_la.html
But it really doesn’t say much, and is a small sample.
She is NOT the front runner. Obama leads with more states, popular vote AND delegates. Clinton never had a momentum. Remember Obama won 12 states in a row. Clinton needs to accept the fact that she is losing. She just lost another state. Even though Obama lost the Texas primary, he won the caucus. The media crowned the wrong winner. Obama is the clear democratic frontrunner.
Why do you people have to be so cruel and nasty, This lady has more to offer than any of them have you honestly ever cked her out NO… You would be surprised how intelligent and knowing she is, she really is amazing.. Her life with Bill is theirs personally, NONE of any ones business, they do love each other he was weak and head strong for a while there but he was the best and smartest President we ever have had he left us with the deficiet great and Bush put us in debt for nothing he is the idiot…Hillary and Obama NEED to run together it would be amazing what they could accomplish…Praying for this to happen.
The Clintons are tricky in the way that super politicians know the score! They are both experienced and bright, and they are both environmentally green, but green is also the color of jealousy. I see green in a lot of these comments.
