ABS CBN news has confirmed reports that the 24 Pinoy sailors kidnapped by local Nigerians have now been released.

The kidnappers claim it was on “humanitarian grounds”, which is assumed to mean that the German ship owner payed a nice fat ransom.

More details will be released later.

President Arroyo is pleased.

Seven Filipinos were kidnapped last year in Nigeria, and a Filipina died during an abduction last week. The government has now instructed their citizens not to work in that country. However, similar bans in dangerous areas are often ignored by workers who desperatly need money for their families, and are willing to risk their lives for a good salary.
