College is supposed to be a time of partying and crazy nights you can’t remember and so much more.  At least, that’s what movies would have us believe.  For most of us, it ends up not being anything like that, but the movies about those types of stories are still very entertaining to watch.  Now there’s a new movie about that and it’s full of beer and naked college girls and all those other things that we like to imagine college is just full of.

Starting this July 14th, now available on DVD from Tapestry Films and Paramount Studios Home Entertainment comes the prequel to the story of the college student who doesn’t want to grow up and graduate.  Van Wilder – Freshman Year – Unrated Edition is ready to party right out of your television screen and bring a whole world of unruly behavior and the birth of a legend into the middle of your living room.  Bring home this great unrated comedy today!

We all know the story of Van Wilder and what his assistant Taj went on to do.  But what we do not know is just how Van went from being just another freshman to being the legend of Coolidge College.  Van shows up and makes a couple of friends right away, but Coolidge College is not the type of place that Van thought it would be.  It is run by a military minded control freak who bans all drinking and sexual relations and there is a strong fundamentalist Christian presence at the college as well.  Now it’s up to Van to bring some fun in and steal the hottest girl on campus from her boyfriend.  But will he be able to keep himself in school and make it a place worth going to at the same time?  This movie stars Jonathan Bennett, Kurt Fuller, Kristin Cavallari and a whole bunch of hot chicks and was directed by Harv Glazer.

The special features included in this DVD are an optional audio commentary from director Harv Glazer and the cast, a featurette about the making of this film, a look at Colossus, a great orientation video for Coolidge College, a look at some pranks, some of Van’s essential party supplies, a hilarious blooper reel and so much more.

Jonathan Bennet is very funny in this movie, but the real star here is none other than Kristin Cavallari.  Of course, as is usually the case in college films, the buddies of the main character are funnier than he is.  But Kristin is gorgeous and, although she won’t be winning any awards for her performance here, she is certainly enjoyable to look at.  And let’s be honest – that’s the entire point of female actresses in films like this.  There are parts of this movie that are truly hilarious, which I found a little surprising.  It is very crude and there is a lot of gratuitous nudity, but that’s how the game is played these days.  I guess.

It doesn’t get much Wilder than this!
