Thunderball (James Bond) [Blu-ray]

My brother is a licensed scuba diver.  Do you know how jealous that makes me?  He’s still in high school, but he got that done while in Boy Scouts a couple of years ago.  Yeah, I suppose I could go and get my license, but where am I going to go scuba diving?  There is a scuba shop just down the road from my apartment and it’s a real interesting place, but it’s so expensive.  And I’m not a huge fan of deep water.  I think I’ll stick to biking.  If you want to watch a film where almost a quarter of it takes place under water, pick up this Bond classic in a brand-new format.

Starting this October 21st, now available on Blu-ray for the first time ever from MGM Studios and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment comes the film series which introduced us to the hippest British agent of all time.  Thunderball is ready to burst our of your television screen in full high definition and with more special features than any high powered explosion could destroy.  Bring home this monumental cinematic moment today!

Bond is at a funeral and kills the man who should have been dead.  Then there’s another almost murder and some subterfuge at NATO.  A pilot sinks two NATO nukes to the bottom of the ocean and the race to find them is on.  Will Bond be able to come through yet again?

The special features included in this disc are incredible.  It has 1080p, lossless audio and smart menu technology.  It includes an optional audio commentary with director Terence Young and others, another with editor Peter Hunt and John Hopkins and others, an image database, original television commercials, a featurette about being on location, a promotional film from Ford, a look into the man who made the jet pack in the film, a featurette about the film itself, a reel of boat film, a making-of featurette, the original trailers and so much more.

I had actually forgotten that I’d seen this movie before until I started watching it this time.  I suppose with all the action underwater, I’d always thought that I was simply watching something by Jacques Cousteau.  Nonetheless, it is an interesting story.  Missing nuclear weaponry in the deep sea?  That’s fascinating.  It’s always nice to see Bond girls in HD and this film is no exception.  The special features are amazing and it’s good to see Bond looking so great.  Blu-ray was made for Bond.

When there’s cinematic lightening, there’s always Thunder.
