Everyone has heard the Christian Bale rant by now.  It’s old news.  No one listens to it anymore, which is a tragedy.  I still listen to it and there are some great remixes out there that put it to a nice house music beat.  I thought it was hilarious and it only makes me like Christian Bale even more.  We don’t need saints to look up to, we need people who are real and aren’t afraid of it to look up to.  And when you say that you and someone else are finished professionally, how much more real can you get?  Now you can see one of Christian Bale’s early movies that did much to develop his style in a whole new format.

Starting this May 19th, now available on Blu-ray Disc from Filmax Entertainment and Paramount Studios Home Entertainment comes the story of a man who couldn’t sleep and is now questioning just about everything and he’s not liking the answers he’s beginning to get.  The Machinist – Blu-ray Disc is ready to stumble out of your television screen and fill your living room with a sense of doubt and impending doom that will stay with you long after the movie has ended.  Bring home this fantastic taut psychological thriller today!

Trevor Reznik is a machinist, but he hasn’t slept one second in over a year.  His work is suffering, his physical state and most of all, his mental state, are also suffering greatly.  At work one day, Trevor injures another employee in an accident because he is distracted by Ivan, a different employee.  Except no one else knows who Ivan is.  Now Trevor is fired and Ivan keeps popping up all over the place and Trevor still can’t find out who he really is.  With everything coming to a head all at once, get ready for one of the strangest twist endings of all time.  This movie stars Christian Bale, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Aitana Sanchez-Gijon, John Sharian and Michael Ironside.

The special features included in this Blu-ray Disc are an optional audio commentary from director Brad Anderson, a selection of deleted scenes, a look at the making of this movie, a featurette about how they created the feel of the movie, a look at some of the visions that Trevor Reznik has and the original theatrical trailer.

This movie is completely fantastic and is even better now that it’s in high definition.  Christian Bale does a compelling job in his portrayal of Trevor Reznik.  He is unbelievably skinny in this role and actually lost all of that weight, getting down to 120 pounds.  Supposedly he only drank one cup of coffee and ate one apple a day to drop the weight.  Now that is dedication to the art of acting.  This movie is a very winding, twisting and almost confusing tale.  But when it all comes together at the end, it is so worth going through the trouble of having to piece everything together.  It is a magnificent movie and is completely worth bringing home.

This Machinist won’t fix anything, but he will make it all much more awesome.

This Blu-ray Disc is available at Amazon.com.
