The Little Mermaid - Ariel's Beginning

I have red hair and, mostly due to that, I find girls with red hair to be overwhelmingly attractive.  Nicole Kidman, Lindsay Lohan, Bree on Wisteria Lane, and Emma Stone, who was so gorgeous in House Bunny that I nearly cried – all of these are the women of my dreams.  But, when I was a kid, I was all about the hottest redhead mermaid who has ever lived – none other than Ariel.  Now there is a new movie all about her and it’s all brand new.

Starting this August 26th, now available on DVD from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment comes the prequel everyone under the sea has been waiting for.  The Little Mermaid – Ariel’s Beginning is ready to swim through your television screen and bring you on a magical and musical journey to a land of fun!  Bring home this wonderful movie today!

This movie stars the vocal talents of Jodi Benson and Samuel Wright, the original duo of Ariel and Sebastian.  This film takes place long before the ever so beautiful Ariel met Prince Eric and fell in love.  It was so far back that music was banned under the ocean in Atlantica, where Ariel and her six sisters live.  Ariel has to decide if music or loyalty is more important, and so she does and she runs into some interesting villains, old friends and new friends along the way.

The special features included in this DVD are the Disney Fast Play option, two deleted scenes, a song selection option which will make every song into a festival of karaoke, a look behind the scenes at the making of the animation and a point and click game of discovery in the bedrooms of Ariel and her six sisters.

This film lacks the stunning and transformative narrative of the first film, but is still very good for a Disney film.  This film is not as dark in places and is much more cute as a whole.  Nonetheless, this film is certainly worth watching, especially if you were a fan of the first film.  The music is, as always with Disney, very good and there are some very important lessons out there that everyone could stand learning again.  In short, I do recommend this film.

Let this prequel take you back to the Beginning.
