Just the other day, I watched Ronin for the first time ever.  It is a very fantastic movie, one of those classic post Cold War spy movies where everyone is damaged and no one is really the good guy.  As far as the name goes, ronin were samurai who had lost their masters and had become mercenaries.  The link between the name and the movie is pretty clear, but they went through some pretty convoluted antics to bring it up within the movie itself.  There is another movie that explores that concept much more naturally and now it’s ready for you to bring home in a whole new format.

Starting this September 15th, now available on Blu-ray Disc from Miramax Films comes the high definition story of a blind samurai who ends up being an inspiration to all of us.  The Blind Swordsman – Zatoichi – Blu-ray Disc is ready to come slashing out of your television screen and flood your living room with tales of justice and revenge and so much excellent swordplay.  Bring home this delightful classic today in high definition!

It’s a rough time in feudal Japan, with corruption and crime at an all-time high.  One village is helpless against the evil surrounding them and has given up hope that they will ever receive justice.  Enter Zatoichi.  He is a blind, wandering samurai without a master and his commitment to truth and justice have made him a hero to the entire nation.  With him on their side, will the town finally stand a chance?

The special features included in this Blu-ray Disc are a great look behind the scenes at the making of this movie and some extensive interviews with the crew of this film.

Here is a stunningly embarrassing confession that I just have to make.  I had never seen this movie before I watched it on Blu-ray.  I have heard all sorts of great things about it and had always wanted to see it, but I never had the chance to see it before.  Some of the fight scenes in this movie are just beyond belief.  The choreography is exquisite and the fights are so good.  I particularly enjoy the story in this film, although, to be honest, isn’t everyone getting tired of the all the stories about virtuous people standing firm against a corrupt government.  Also, how realistic is a blind samurai?  Not very, that’s my opinion.  Nonetheless, the sword fighting is magnificent.  Bring it home today because you’ll love it in high definition.

Only the Blind could not enjoy this delightful film.

This Blu-ray Disc is available at Amazon.com.
