Mary Poppins (45th Anniversary Special Edition)

I love this movie.  It was one of my favorites when I was a child and I have watched it at least a dozen times.  My parents had taped it off of the television at some point in the early nineties, so not only did I get to see the only musical I have ever truly enjoyed, but also I got to watch some of the most fantastic and dated television commercials of all time.  It was glorious!  Everyone wore such ugly colors and bought such garbage, but it was one of my favorite parts of the movie experience.  Now that movie is available for you again, but this time you won’t have to fast-forward through all of those lame commercials.

Starting this January 27th, now available on DVD from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment comes the greatest musical of all time about the world’s best nanny.  Mary Poppins – 45th Anniversary Edition is ready to come blasting out of your television screen with it’s colorful and magical view of life in London.  Bring home this absolute masterpiece today!

Jane and Michael Banks of Number Seventeen Cherry Tree Lane are in need of a new nanny.  Luckily, one blows in on an Eastern wind with her umbrella and carries a magical carpetbag with her acerbic wit.  She proceeds to help the children grow up and have many great adventures, while eventually helping everyone in the family value themselves and each other a little bit more.  This movie stars Hermione Baddeley, Karen Dotrice, Matthew Garber, Elsa Lanchester, Arthur Treacher, Reginald Owen, Ed Wynn, Julie Andrews, Dick Van Dyke, David Tomlinson and Glynis Johns.

The special features included in this two disc anniversary edition are a featurette about taking this movie from script to film, a look at the “Step In Time” musical number and a downloadable mp3 of the same title, a design gallery, a bunch of pop-up fun facts, a whole bunch of behind the scenes footage, a bonus animated adventure hosted by Julie Andrews, a musical reunion of the big stars of the film, a deleted song, a look behind the scenes of the Broadway hit based off of the film and so much more.

Who doesn’t love this film?  And if there is anyone who doesn’t, how could they possibly not enjoy it?  The animation is somewhat cheesy, but the story is nothing short of magical.  It’s easy to see why the movie won five Academy Awards and it probably deserved more.  All of the songs are great and the life lessons we are taught are magnificent as well.  Not only that, but it’s such a treat to see Dick Van Dyke, who was completely one of a kind and shines in this role more than in any other that he has ever had.  Pick this movie up and start the good times all over again for a new generation.

Keep the fun times Poppin’ with this great DVD!
