I really enjoy Alamo Drafthouse’s AGFA (American Genre Film Archive) project. In fact I like almost everything connected with Alamo Drafthouse. This Austin based specialty cinema chain always amazes me. Some 6 or 7 years ago the showed a movie from Belgium, Bullhead went on to become an Oscar contender. Not too shabby for an uppity little arthouse operation.

What is AGFA? In a nutshell, they take long forgotten films and restore them for all to enjoy. Mainly they are films that few people have heard of. The last release was Godmonster Of Indian Flats, review here. It is a delightful romp into the horror genre with an 8 foot tall mutant sheep in the starring role.

Lady Street Fighter is just as quirky. The movie is right out of the Andy Sidaris play book. As his widow Arlene Sidaris told me, “The movies were all about babes, boobs and bombs”.  Lady Street Fighter fits this description perfectly, it is a made for a late night cable channel.

A part of the press release:

She makes the bad guys bleed! Written and produced by exploitation demigod Renee Harmon (FROZEN SCREAM) and directed by the legendary James Bryan (DON’T GO IN THE WOODS), this is the story of Linda (Harmon), a tough-as-nails karate cop on the trail of the ruthless scumbags who murdered her twin sister!

From the outrageous fight scenes to Harmon’s incredible outfits, LADY STREET FIGHTER is a joyous blast of no-holds-barred chaos from one of the most important female filmmakers in genre history. Don’t miss the special appearance by Trace Carradine, the most elusive Carradine brother of all!

I love movies, and I am a firm believer that indies rule! Any fool can make a $200 million disaster, but it takes real skill to make a low budget movie that makes a profit.
