King Baby

I first heard of Jim Gaffigan about four years ago through Beyond The Pale.  Then he started popping up all over the place and it was magnificent.  I still quote from that comedy CD and some of my favorite jokes are on there.  The particular bit about cake is beyond sublime.  “I just want you to know I partied.”  That’s comic gold which never gets old.  Luckily, there’s a new DVD of Jim Gaffigan’s hilarious magic and it’s ready on DVD right now.

Starting this March 31st, now available on DVD from Comedy Central DVD and Paramount Studios Home Entertainment comes the next stand-up special from one of the funniest and whitest people out there.  Jim Gaffigan – King Baby is ready to come blasting out of your television screen and bring a whole world of hilarity and bacon and glorious whiteness into your living room.  Bring home this comedy juggernaut today!

Jim Gaffigan is a white comic who loves bacon and being lazy and his comedy forces you to revel delightfully in those facts.  With his signature comic delivery, which includes a sotto voce take on what certain audience members must be thinking about his jokes, he is one of the true risen stars in this comic era.  This DVD is a live recording of his final 2008 show in Austin, Texas, for the King Baby show.  It’s glorious and magnificent and you will laugh like you haven’t laughed in a long time.

The special features included in this DVD are beyond numerous.  They include three episodes of Pale Force, four episodes of Our Massive Planet, an X/M Sirius radio interview, a British interview which has never been aired before, a great look at Jim in Atlanta, The Sexy Tour – Friday Night Stand Up, The Beyond the Pale Tour – Friday Night Stand Up.

I love Jim Gaffigan so that’s certainly where this review starts.  He can do little to no wrong and this film certainly continues that trend.  The problem is that maybe his first film was a little too good and my expectations were set slightly too high.  It seemed as though he was a little too slow to get started in the beginning.  We’ve all heard that you’re shockingly white and you like to eat – we want new information along those lines now.  Once he gets to the topic of bacon, a fantastically long segment, Jim is on a roll and everything really picks up from there.  Never has a murdered animal seemed so crushingly hilarious.  All in all, it’s a great addition to your comedy library and something you can watch over and over again.

This DVD is King!
