Oklahoma natives and psychedelic rock band The Flaming Lips sing a song about how there is such a great deal of idealism and goodwill built up around the Christmas season.  And, because of all this hope at the holidays, life will be different and people will change and everything will get all better.  Of course, the song ends with the realization that there’s nothing that different about the holidays and it’s all an illusion.  But if there is a reason to believe that the holidays do have the potential to bring change, it is found in Frank Capra’s holiday classic, It’s A Wonderful Life.

Starring Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed, It’s A Wonderful Life sets the standard for both  sentimental and holiday movies.  Thankfully, it is now released as a special two-disc collectors edition, just in time for that wonderful holiday season.  This movie has spawned some of the greatest cliches, catchphrases, and sentimental holiday moments of all time.

Also included in this fantastic 2-disc collectors edition is a documentary about the making of It’s A Wonderful Life, a special tribute to Frank Capra from his son, Frank Capra Junior, and the original theatrical trailer.

It’s A Wonderful Life shows us all that no man is a failure who has friends.
