I love science fiction movies.  It’s the future, there’s cool stuff and it’s all about possibilities, even if it just the things we have possibly lost between now and then.  I’ve seen many of the great ones and a whole lot of the bad ones.  Did you know that John Carpenter made a couple of science fiction movies?  I can’t forget them.  But now a great science fiction comedy that you will certainly remember is ready for you on DVD right now.

Starting this May 12th, now available on DVD from DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Studios Home Entertainment comes a great space age spoof about the power of our dreams and the strength of our teamwork.  Galaxy Quest – Deluxe Edition is ready to come out of your television at warp speed and bring a whole galaxy of hilarious hijinks into your living room.  Laugh along and bring this fantastic and family friendly space-age film home today!

Jason Nesmith and the few friends he has left are all famous because of the roles they played on a television show back in the day called Galaxy Quest.  Now they live for commercial appearances and conventions where they get to relive some of their fame.  Then Nesmith is approached by a group of real aliens who think that his show is actually a collection of historical documents and they have now built their civilization around those episodes.  The aliens was Nesmith to come and help them fight off an evil alien, but he doesn’t believe it’s real and botches the situation.  Now he has to bring back his crew, fight some real space battles and figure a way out of this mess.  This movie stars Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, Tony Shalhoub, Sam Rockwell, Daryl Mitchell and Rainn Wilson.

The special features included in this Deluxe Edition are a great look at the history of Galaxy Quest, an in-depth look at the crew of the NSEA Protector, an interesting featurette about the special features used in the film, a look at how the Thermian race was created, a look at putting actors into space, a hilarious rap by Sigourney Weaver, some very interesting deleted scenes, the Thermian audio track and the original theatrical trailer.

Sigourney Weaver has never looked better than she does in this movie.  I know, I was also surprised when I found myself thinking the same thing.  But she’s even better looking than in Heartbreakers, a movie in which she was supposed to be hot.  Tony Shalhoub puts in what has become his signature nuanced and subtly hilarious style of performance while Alan Rickman is, as usual, a delightfully unlikable dick who ends up being redeemed.  As far as Tim Allen, this is one of his truly funny roles outside of his television show.  Even better is that one of the Thermians who has just a couple of lines is none other than Rainn Wilson of Dwight Schrute fame.  This is a fantastic PG movie.  This is the perfect comedy for early middle schoolers or elementary kids.  And those of us who, by cruel fate, are older can also like it and appreciate the allusions to many great science fiction movies, none more prevalent than Star Trek.  The Thermians and their laughter is hilarious and it’s great to see the nerd contingent so delightfully maligned back before it became cool to be one.  Bring home this ten year anniversary and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it too.

Your Quest is over, bring home this hilarious family space comedy today!
