I was never in a fraternity.  There weren’t any at my neo-con religious school where it was hard enough to even find a cigarette, let alone anything fun.  Some of my friends from high school were in fraternities, but they were the smart kid types of frats, not the parties and non-unibrow members.  It is a lifestyle that is completely foreign to me, but I enjoy the brotherhood it stands for, regardless of how contrived it really ends up being.  Now one of the best movies ever made about fraternities and the people in them is back out on a new format.

Starting this December 16th, now available on Blu-ray Disc for the first time ever from DreamWorks Home Entertainment comes the ultimate tale of college fraternities and the inner irresponsible child in each of us.  Old School – Unrated And Out Of Control – Blu-ray Disc is ready to KY wrestle its way into your living room and take your heart streaking into that magical place.  Bring home this fantastically hilarious film today!

Mitch, played by Luke Wilson, comes home early from a business trip and discovers his wife in the midst of a gang-bang.  He, rather obviously, leaves her and rents a house right next to the college in town.  Over time, his friends Frank, played by Will Ferrell, and Beanie, played by Vince Vaughn, move in or spend a lot of time at the house and decide that they need to start a fraternity in the house.  They do, but then Dean Pritchard decides to try and shut them down, a task which eventually culminates in a decathlon of sorts, the high point of which is when Frank defeats James Carville in a debate.  This movie also stars Elisha Cuthbert and Jeremy Piven.

The special features included in this Blu-ray Disc are nearly beyond number.  There is an optional audio commentary, three television ads for the film, an enormous collection of outtakes and bloopers, a fantastic spoof of Inside The Actor’s Studio, the original theatrical trailer, an orientation to the fraternity, and a whole mess of deleted scenes.

If I were to start purchasing Blu-ray Discs to create a library I could be proud of, this movie would be the second one I would buy.  The first would the Planet Earth documentary series because it’s simply fantastic.  This is one of Will Ferrell’s best movies, although he is little more than a role player.  My favorite scene is the one with Seann William Scott as the animal trainer with a mullet.  It is beyond glorious.  Vince Vaughn is also splendid in this role, even though he can’t really act and just sells himself in every film.  It works though, because Vince Vaughn as himself is hilariously wonderful.  This movie is also a great chance to see Ellen Pompeo when she was still very attractive and not whatever she became once she joined Gray’s.  Todd Phillips does a wonderful job directing and creates one of the greatest and funniest movies in a long time.  Seeing it on Blu-ray is wonderful and makes even the jokes more crisp.  As usual when it comes to movies starring Will Ferrell, it’s the special features that are the best and those on Blu-ray are even better.

Bring in the fun, Old School style!
