Ghost Town

Evidently, it’s romantic comedies that keep the world going ‘round.  They seem to be one of the few genres that are pumped out all year long.  On the surface, they are the perfect mixture.  The usually feature sexual situations and humor – the essentials for a guy movie, along with bright colors and romance – the essentials for a movie women can enjoy.  This way, it makes the perfect date movie, bringing in the young and romantic or just young and lonely crowd.  It’s movie chemistry made in heaven.  I don’t want to give the wrong impression – some of them are hilarious and wonderful.  Most aren’t, but now there’s a new movie out which fits this bill and is beyond fantastic.

Starting this December 28th, now available on DVD from Spyglass Entertainment and DreamWorks Home Entertainment comes the hilarious tale of loving, living and dying.  Ghost Town is ready to swoop into your living room and show you a fantastic tale of the dead walking among us and how they transform the life of one man.  Bring home this wonderfully funny film today!

Bertram Pincus is a dentist who lives in Manhattan and really just hates people.  They are too loud, too boring and just generally reprehensible.  Pincus is no master of interaction.  Yet while getting a colonoscopy, he dies for a little less than seven minutes.  After this, he is able to see ghosts, who evidently lurk around the city, just hoping for their unfinished business to get resolved.  One of them corrals Pincus into trying to break up the ghost’s widow and her new fiancé.  Yet while trying to do this, Pincus begins to open up and maybe even falls in love again.  Where they go from there is a hilarious and wonderful journey into love.  This movie stars Ricky Gervais, Tea Leoni and Greg Kinnear.

The special features included in this DVD are an optional hilarious audio commentary from David Koepp and Ricky Gervais, a featurette looking into the making of this film, Some People Can Do It and a featurette about creating the ghostly effects.

This is a completely fantastic romantic comedy.  The biggest reason it is such a treat is the fact that Ricky Gervais is still relatively unknown.  It’s a delightful surprise when we all discover that he really is so hilarious and portrays this character in a manner than can’t help but tug at your heart.  I liked him when he was on the BBC and was excited to see him in this film, yet even knowing how funny he was and how talented he can be, I was still blown away.  Greg Kinnear is good in this movie, even though his character is kind of a tool.  Tea Leoni, as I’m sure you already guessed, absolutely shined in this movie.  What a beautiful person she is.  You will love this movie.

Just give up the Ghost and start laughing already.
