Megan, the 13-year-old daughter of Ron and Tina Meier, was the victim of harassment by “Josh”, a boy she’d met at popular social site, MySpace. Upset at his messages, she hung herself.
“Josh” was later found to be a hoax, the fictional creation of Curt and Lori Drew, neighbors who lived down the street from the Meier’s. “Josh” was created to by Lori Drew and her employee to monitor what Megan might be saying about the Drew’s daughter after the two girls had a fight.
“Megan Meier is a slut. Megan Meier is fat.”
–bulletin posted at MySpace by “Josh”
“Everybody in O’Fallon knows how you are. You are a bad person and
everybody hates you. Have a shitty rest of your life. The world would
be a better place without you.”
–Josh’s last message to Megan, according to Ron Meier’s best recollection
“They are all being so mean to me.”
–Megan Meier, to her mom, on the day of her death
“I grabbed her as she tried to go by,” Ron says. “She told me that some
kids were saying horrible stuff about her and she didn’t understand
why.”
–Ron Meier right about what happened right before Megan took her life.
“She did sit here in my living room and confess everything to me. She
told me that they had pulled an image of a boy off the Internet and
that they had created an account using the name of Josh Evans, and she
said she knew the last message that left her house that Monday when
Megan attempted her life was that, ‘The world would be a better place
without you”.
–an unnamed neighbor about how she learned Lori Drew was behind the hoax

That’s not even funny. What part of that do you think is cool?
You must not have a heart if you think that the suicide of a 13 year old girl makes the world a better place. The world is WORSE OFF because her death caused pain for all who heard her story and weeped for her, not to mention her close friends and family who will never be the same without her. It is 4 years later and people are still talking about her! RIP Megan Meier.
Did you know Mr. Evans that over 50% of 12-14 yr old kids are bullied via electronics? Out of that 50% 10% preform acts of self injury and even commit suicide. Now imagine if all of that 50% commited suicide, our society would die and the world would stop. I think with Easter around the corner you should really think about saying things like that and how God cherishes each and every life, maybe you should try to do the same
OMG that is like so sad and i cried my eyes out wen her mom came to talk to my school. Those people should be so ashamed. That is like freaky sad. She was a normal evryday girl who liked guys and thought that “Josh Evans” was a guy that liked her for her. Verbal abuse is like the pain that sticks. Physical is the kind that hurts u inside. But I use to be mean to this girl but now i am not because of this story. I thought “What if she went home and killed herself because of me?”. Rip Megan Meier Love u.
who the hell do u think you are to say that the world is better now since megan meier is now gone. This goes out to all cyber bullies out there its people like you that make the world a terrible place
R.I.P Megs. Love you. Miss you.
How can anyone say that the world is a better place because a teenage girl took her life!?!? What kind of sick and twisted person would be happy because a girl committed suicide? One of my friends ALMOST committed suicide!!! But, she posted a pic on Instagram and a whole bunch of people comminted on the pic saying that she is worth it and not to kill herself, that she had her whole life in front of her. A lot of people also texted her. Some did both. That night I cried myself to sleep in hopes that she wouldn’t try. I feel really lucky that she didn’t try. She was ELEVEN, 11, then. I was so happy that she posted the pic. If she hadn’t I don’t know where she would be if she hadn’t! REST IN PEACE MEGAN!!!!! R.I.P Megan Meier!!
RIP Megan
That is so sad a girl who cares! RIP MEGAN MEIER
