A Minnesota man who is registered in the Minnesota Sex Offender Program in St. Peter, Minn., a secure treatment facility for sex offenders, has filed a lawsuit against the state for confiscating his laptop computer after pornographic images were found on his computer including a collection of covers from Playboy magazine. The man, Christopher Ivey, is currently committed to the institution as a sexual psychopathic personality and a sexually dangerous person after he served time in prison for sexually assaulting multiple women and for murdering one woman. Ivey contends that the current law is too overly broad and vague and the confiscation of his computer was in violation of his first amendment rights to free expression and his fourteenth amendment rights to due process.
