A New York lawyer has spoken out following the release of a new federal report into the knowledge of asbestos from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. The report stated that around 1.3 million workers still face significant exposure to this deadly carcinogenic, including both construction and general workers.

Joseph W. Belluck, a New York personal injury attorney, has spoken out following the release of the report. He said that despite the fact that there are strict regulations in place with regards to asbestos use and working with asbestos there are still too many risks and too many workers still being exposed to this deadly substance.

Belluck stated: “We know that asbestos causes cancer and other serious respiratory problems, but it’s important to continue refining and deepening our knowledge. Research that leads to lower exposure limits and greater protection of workers is a worthy national goal.”

Asbestos was once widely used in the United States and other countries in a wide range of industries and applications. However, several decades ago it became widely known that exposure to this substance could cause serious health problems including a deadly form of cancer known as mesothelioma.
