Has the flourishing Indian democratic political system influenced Chinese President Hu Jintao to mull introducing new political reforms in the single party ruled nation?
Interestingly, Hu, just back after a successful maiden state visit to India and interacting with the Indian political leadership, has issued a clarion call for greater promotion of “grassroots democracy” at the latest Politburo meeting of the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC).
China’s President Hu recently visited India.
While there the two countries agreed to double bilateral trade to $40 billion by signing 13 agreements on:
1. Science
2. Space exploration
3. Agriculture
4. Education
5. Tourism
6. Nuclear energy
India and China are not the best of friends. There are lots of reasons for this, not the least of which is Pakistan and China’s close friendship.
Still, in a short visit, a couple of presidents with the help of a whole lot pre-planning were able to commit a whole lot of money to make a difference in the lives of 40% of the world’s population
