Toys come and go, and the iconic 60’s toy Etch-A-Sketch had definitely seen better days. I think I was given one as a present in 61 or 62. It was fun for about 10 minutes, and then relegated to the mounting pile of stuff that every kid thinks they will die without owning but quickly discover that the press hype does not quite live up to the promises.

However the current TV sit com known as the GOP Primary’s have breathed new life into this aging toy.

While Obama is well known for his love of the Teleprompter, the key device for the Rebublicans seems to be the Etch-A-Sketch. CNN are reporting that it has shot to the number one selling toy on Amazon. Prices for the toy are also climbing on eBay. Screw oil prices, a grim economy, the health system debacle, Etch-A-Sketch is where the action is!

Stock prices for the manufacturer Ohio Art Company are through the roof! Screw the iPhone, the real money for investors is in the Etch-A-Sketch.

I have watched more stupid Etch-A-Sketch political news stories today than I care to even recall. It is stupid, stupid, stupid! But there again, who ever said that politics were the domain of the sensible?

A man I have been talking to recently wrote a song in the early 70’s the title was Heavy Disguise. The refrain is:

Fools must pretend to be wise
We’ve a faith that we use as a heavy disguise.

I find it such a fitting song for what the voters are having to deal with. Who cares about an Etch-A-Sketch comment? There are bigger fish to fry than a 60’s toy. One would think that the Republican party would be united in the goal of regaining a stay at the worlds most excusive hotel, rather than bickering with each other.

The Democrats must just be loving it. It is like watching the classic movie The Quick And The Dead. Will there even be a Republican gunslinger still standing by November? One thing is clear, the GOP gunslinger will be wounded and short of bullets.

Ego’s have got in the way of the mission. And the closer we get to the Showdown at November Coral the more worried the GOP should become. There is going to be one beat up and punch drunk gunslinger.

Of course the situation could be solved by the other would be’s handing their guns to Mitt Romney, right now. But I cannot see that happening. They have little chance of winning, but they all seem bent on spoiling Romney’s nomination. He will make the magic number of delegates, but the message is loud and clear, Mitt doesn’t have the support of the Republican voters. This is a potential problem. The US is a two party country. Registered voters with an affiliation for one party will vote that way, regardless of the idiocy that is being espoused. The key to success however are the 10% that are more interested in ideas rather than labels. One has to wonder what the 10% are making of Etch-A-Sketch?
