According to mainstream media reports, “Tower Records, a venerable but bankrupt chain of more than 90 U.S. music store is going out of business after its sale Friday to a new owner.”
Good riddance, I say. I used to “dumpster dive” one of Tower’s locations in Seattle and, good grief, these people acted like they’d never heard of recycling…and in Seattle, an environmentally-conscious place. Furthermore, the amount of pornography these stores were pumping into the world was amazing, and I mean the really hard stuff, not your basic convenience store selection of Playboy, Penthouse, Playgirl. No, it was all the “barely legal” stuff, and barely a thought crossed their mind to properly recycle it once they’d ripped off the covers for a refund from the publisher.
What comes around goes around, and nobody should shed tears over Tower Records, purveyors of porn and, based on my firsthand dumpster observations, utterly negligent when it came to recyling.
