A suburban Georgia mother of four, Laura Mallory is petitioning her local school board to ban the Harry Potter books from their libraries because the fiction series is attempting to lead children into the modern witchcraft religion of Wicca. The board of education is not having it and has responded with the fact that if these books were removed, all books that referenced witches would have to be removed including titles like Macbeth and Cinderella. This is the same county that earlier this year came under fire after it decided to cut funding of Spanish language fiction books. The move was made when residents complained that they didn’t want their tax money going towards something that might be entertainment to illegal immigrants. The decision was reversed three days later.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackI am afraid this woman hasn’t read any of the Harry Potter Books. In no way shape or form do these books promote or teach anything about witchcraft. They are stories about kids in a fictional school setting. Thier type of magic doesn’t exsist. It is pure fiction. It is no different than Cinderella, Snow white, or Dune just to name a few! I am outraged at her claims. She needs to seriously do her research! Her claims are unfounded and untrue! I have read all the books and i look forard to the upcoming releases. I SUPPORT you Harry Potter! Besides what is her problem with the craft? I would like to hear her opionion. Is she against the craft or against not having her religion allowed in school. She needs to go after the textbooks on the craft in schools not a fictional story book. That is if there are any! Her energy needs to be redirected! There are better fights out there than picking on a great fictional story that is very well written!
