From the Times Online:
A STUDY that claimed 650,000 people were killed as a result of the invasion of Iraq was partly funded by the antiwar billionaire George Soros.
Soros, 77, provided almost half the £50,000 cost of the research, which appeared in The Lancet, the medical journal. Its claim was 10 times higher than consensus estimates of the number of war dead.
The study, published in 2006, was hailed by antiwar campaigners as evidence of the scale of the disaster caused by the invasion, but Downing Street and President George Bush challenged its methodology.
New research published by The New England Journal of Medicine estimates that 151,000 people – less than a quarter of The Lancet estimate – have died since the invasion in 2003.
“The authors should have disclosed the [Soros] donation and for many people that would have been a disqualifying factor in terms of publishing the research,†said Michael Spagat, economics professor at Royal Holloway, University of London.
The only people who took that number seriously were the left-wing lunatics who hate America and hate President Bush. That study was nothing more than left-wing propaganda meant to damage America’s image around the world.
It’s certainly not surprising that George Soros would be behind the whole thing. I have written extensively about how Soros uses his vast wealth to fund a radical left-wing agenda.
The Lancet chose to keep silent about the Soros funding, because they knew the study would have had zero credibility at the outset with everyone except liberal kooks.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackThe left wing UKTimes and the right wing US site Pajamasmedia both questioned the report.
But the main problem is the politicization of medical journals…any other study that came up with figures out of line with other reports would not have been published unless several experts had verified there was neither fraud nor error.
In this case, the suspicion is not just Soros was behind it, but that the Iraqis doctor who directed the data collection had worked for Sadam.
