Evidently, while visiting the White House to give the President of the United States a full demo of Ford’s new hydrogen-electric plug-in hybrid, Ford CEO Alan Mulally’s fast action prevented Dick Cheney from becoming our 44th President. As Bush, extension cord in hand, stepped to the hydrogen port at the rear of the vehicle instead of the electric socket at the front, Mulally sprung into action:

“I just thought, ‘Oh my goodness!’ So, I started walking faster, and the President walked faster and he got to the cord before I did. I violated all the protocols. I touched the President. I grabbed his arm and I moved him up to the front,” Mulally said. “I wanted the president to make sure he plugged into the electricity, not into the hydrogen. This is all off the record, right?”

Can you really blow up a Ford HySereis Edge with such an easy gaff? That kinda strikes me as a design flaw. Has Consumer Reports seen this thing yet?
