US Citizens Deserve the Right to Make a Choice About GMO Labeling to Prevent Possible Cancer, Crohn’s, IBD, IBS, Kidney, Liver, Pancreatic, Arthritis and other diseases

Natural News released a video that claims that Whole Foods has been caught selling foods containing genetically modified organisms (GMO) without informing their customers. We have exposed the Whole Foods controversy in previous articles and our books as well as the discussion appearing in the press for years. For example:

1. We questioned a woman providing a sample of a conventional salsa and chips. She replied that the tomatoes were genetically engineered. When asked what this meant, she explained that she was taught by the distributor that the altering of tomatoes is to preserve them and make them a healthier tomato. She had zero understanding of GMO process or it’s toxic effect. We were shocked the first time we heard this crazy claim, but thanks to Monsanto, the myth that GMO tomatoes stayed around for years.

2. Last Thanksgiving we were excited to see fresh corn in Whole Foods. It was conventionally grown. Organically grown corn was not available. We asked the Whole Foods worker who was putting out the corn, if the corn was GMO. He replied, “Yes.” Just to be certain we heard him correctly, we repeated the question and the reply was the same.

3. Many of the butchers admit that the finishing process of many of the meats is done with corn. For some in the meat industry, the standard is to feed them GMO corn for the last 30 days because it is simply easier while the cattle are in transit. Because the process is only 30 days, the FDA has ruled that is “safe.” There is little question that this corn is GMO. But, each salesperson, on any given day, will give you a different response, generally conflicting with the last response to the same question.

We avoid all conventional foods at Whole Foods and only buy organic non-processed foods. In addition, we are still uncertain how the conventional food in Whole Foods, which cost more, differs from the conventional fruit and vegetables found at a 99¢ store? Claiming that the conventionally grown foods come from local venders does not explain whether the local venders treat their foods sold at Whole Foods differently than those sold at a 99¢ Store.
As we point out in our articles and books, most people in the US have been eating genetically engineered foods since the mid-1990s. More than 99% of all processed foods on US Supermarket shelves contain ingredients from GMO soy, corn or canola, flax seed grown in Canada. Approximately 94% of soy alone is genetically modified and most, if not all, processed foods contain soy or corn. Soy and corn are often hidden in other chemical names as is MSG. We list more than 125 different chemical names containing MSG in our books.

Sadly in 1994 when GMO was introduced there were 1 in 11 people who had cancer. Evidence-based statistics indicate that 1 in 3 women and 1 in 2 men will have cancer in their lifetime while 1 in 4 women will have breast cancer in their lifetime. It is not a reach to tie the increase in cancer to the use of GMO foods and an increase in chemicals in processed foods. A frozen meal may contain up to 150 different chemicals, most derived from GMO corn and soy.

According to GMO growers conventional fruits and vegetables require the use of up to 25 times more pesticides than the amount used on conventional, non-GMO plants. Who in his world doesn’t know that pesticides cause illness, particularly cancer? What other single factor has changed in food in the past 20 years could affect food as much as the widespread use of GMO fruits and vegetables and the chemicals derived from GMO corn and soy?

The most recent evidence of the toxic effects of GMO can be found in the report by Dr. Judy Carman which can be read:

This study is significant because it was conducted independently from the Bio Tech industry. Dr. Carman’s study is evidence-based and less likely to show bias than a home-cooked study by an industry insider paid to promote Monsanto products.

Monsanto will not cooperate with independent labs in conducting outside studies, nor will they provide the information from their own studies to the general public. Most research studies shared are done by Monsanto or others financed by Monsanto. It is hard to trust anyone writing a report that is bought and paid for in advance by a multinational corporation like Monsanto.

In the meantime, the Bio Tech industry has gone on a campaign to debunk Dr. Judy Carman and her study. It is now common in our society to attack anyone bearing a negative truth. It has sadly been the custom of our government and Big Business since the days of Karen Silkwood’s death. Of course, her employer had nothing to do with her death! Right!

Dr. Carman’s research repeats the process from start to finish of what occurs as a result of the intake of GMO and the resulting illness on the animal, specifically mammals. Humans are mammals making the testing most appropriate.

Dr. Carman’s study shows a dramatic increase in intestinal inflammation. The pigs fed a diet of genetically engineered soy and corn showed a dramatic increase in severe stomach, gastric (GI) and uterine associated inflammation compared to those fed non-GMO diets.

The gastrointestinal track is home to 70% of the immune system. The results indicated disruption of the immune system. In males, the difference was even more pronounced.

Other researches repeated their own research studies feeding GMO to rats since the start, which proved over and over the same harmful consequences. According to Dr. Arpad Putzai the body will regard any genetically modified materials entering the body as foreign objects which cause a disruption of the body’s immune response which is harmful and causes countless illnesses. According to countless research studies, it is undeniable.

In layman terms, when the immune response is disrupted it can cause illnesses such as Crohn’s disease, IBS, IBD, liver, kidney, pancreatic cancer, diabetes, auto-immune disease, arthritis, cancer, etc.

For one, the liver has proven to shrink in rats given GMO. Anyone on chemotherapy or history of cancer should never eat GMO. Same for AIDS, Hepatitis, organ failure of any type, etc. The risk is too high which we cover in depth in the books. Humans have simply not evolved enough to counter the attack their body suffers with each ingestion of genetically modified and biotech foods. Food containing GMO is food made by man, not God, or nature. There is nothing natural about this food source. As a result, there is nothing natural about how it affects your body, i.e., cancer, diabetes and kidney failure.

Sadly, Monsanto’s biggest partner is the US government. Over the past 10 years Monsanto lobbyists have spent more than $100 million making sure they get the most favorable legislation possible. Of that $100 million, nearly $25 million was paid to outside lobbying firms who lobby on behalf of Monsanto. More than $40 million was spent on Monsanto’s staff lobbyists. Monsanto provided $9,450,190 in campaign contributions from 2011 to 2012. One effective breakdown can be located at:

Why does the tax payer have to continually pay for very expensive research studies on the cause of the various illnesses such as these when the independent evidence-based research reports provide the same information over and over with regard to the negative impact of GMO on humans?

Recently, the CDC recently sent out a 140 page report on the cause of antibiotic resistance. The report discusses the bacteria disruption caused by over usage of antibiotics. But it fails to discuss bacteria caused by GMO foods. To split a plant gene to genetically modify that plant requires E. coli and/or the BT toxin. Certainly, this is a potential cause of bacteria in the human body.

How can this continue to be ignored? The studies have been proven for years! The health care spending for 2012 in the US hit $2.807 trillion, or $8,948 per person. According to statistics compiled by researchers at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and published in the journal Health Affairs expenditures rose only 3.9 percent in 2012, the same percentage increase as in 2011, 2010 and 2009.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to label the genetically modified foods so the citizens can make their own choice on their health rather than become another unhealthy statistic? Labeling is already required by 64 countries across the globe.

Because the US does not require labeling, it means these and other countries can ship foods to US without a GMO label. In effect, without labeling, foreign countries that demand labeling in their own country and even reject GMO can freely produce and ship their unwanted GMO to the US. Spain produces GMO crops but generally export them.

There is a reason all 64 countries label and often reject GMO food in their own country. Some countries will not place GMO on the same shelves and customers won’t shop in a store that contain the contaminated toxic food source.

Why are Americans the last to join a health campaign? Why do we claim to have Healthy People 2020 and other major campaigns that cost tax payers millions and millions without giving citizens the truth or choice?

Congress is busy fighting the Affordable Health Care plan while continuing to feed its nation toxic foods. Why? Have advertising and lobbying become so strong that people would rather believe a biased advertisement or lobbyist compared to proven independent evidence-based research? American consumers deserve the same right to know the same truth as 64 foreign countries.
