Residents in Miami’s southern suburb areas, Palmetto Bay and Cutler Bay have been horrified at what was found on some of the lawns or driveways during the past two months. Apparently there has been a serial killer of pet cats and stray cats.

The Miami police department made an arrest as reported Sunday morning. Tyler Weinman, 18 years old from Cutler Bay, Florida, was arrested for killing the cats and mutilating them.

He was charged with 19 counts of animal cruelty and 19 counts of improperly disposing of an animal body and four counts of burglary. In some cases they say he beat them, skinned them or gutted them and left the corpses for the owners to see on their property.

Miami-Dade County State Attorney, Katherine Fernandez Rundle said, “I sincerely hope that with this arrest, the residents will feel relieved and their cats will be safe once again. It is expected that the vicious crimes that have plagued these communities will not be repeated.”

Once it was apparent someone was out on a killing spree against cats the residents of the areas were on high alert and they started taking their pet cats and even some of the stray cats inside their homes at night to protect them. The Humane Society and Crimestoppers both had offered a reward for any information that could lead them to the arrest for whoever was responsible for this cruel and heartless crime.

A Cutler Bay resident, Mary Lou Shad, owned one of the cats that was found dead. She told ABC, “At least now I can drive around without having to look for dead cats.” Mary Lou’s husband, Thomas Shad said they had started taking care of a stray cat that they called Miss Kitty. He noticed she didn’t come around for breakfast that morning so he walked around looking for her. He said he found her in a neighbor’s back yard with her head smashed in. He says it was crushed and her back legs were skinned.

So folks hopefully there won’t be any copycat killers of the cats in your neighborhoods. Between child abductors and murderers, pedophiles, and animal abusers, what is it about Florida? Is it something in the water?
