Man originated in 1968, and had their roots in the southern part of Wales. At best they were a volatile band, and by 1976, 13 albums, 1500 gigs later, they decided to call it a day. The farewell concert was in 1976 at the Roundhouse near London. Their 8 year reign was at best a rocky one, they seemed to change lineups more often than than Britney Spears goes into rehab!

About the only long term theme about the players was their Welsh heritage. The final line-up included the only original member, Mickey Jones on guitar, drummer Terry Williams, guitarist Deke Leonard, keyboard player Phil Ryan and John McKenzie on bass.

This is an engaging DVD, it is part concert and part documentary, slipping seamlessly between vintage footage and modern commentary. Man were an unusual band and one that is hard to put a label on. Sometimes they were Hard rock, sometimes they strayed into Prog rock, sometimes they were mainstream. I suspect that this was part of the reason that they did not last longer than they did in this, their original form.

Man – In Concert 1976 is available from MVD.
