A lawsuit has been filed against a member of the US Secret Service by a Denver man earlier this week. The lawsuit was filed after the man saw the Vice President at a local mall shaking hands and posing for pictures. The man, who was with his son at the time, got within 2-3 feet of the Vice President and told him “I think your policies in Iraq are reprehensible,” before walking on. A little while later, the man returned to the area with his son when he was approached by Secret Service agent Virgil D. “Gus” Reichle Jr. who asked him ‘Did you assault the Vice President?’, when the man said no, he was put into handcuffs in front of his son and taken to Eagle County jail. While charges were dropped against the man, the lawsuit says that the Secret Servant agent should be issued a summons for harassment. It also states that he was arrested in retaliation for exercising his first amendment rights of free speech and that the arrest violated his fourth amendment rights against unlawful seizure.
