Today’s edition of the daily round up is starting in my home state of Washington State where a group that is in favor of same sex marriages has taken a drastic step towards getting their cause recognized. In an effort to open “discussion about the many misguided assumptions” of the same sex ban that was upheld by the state’s supreme court last year, the Washington Defense of Marriage Alliance is launching a campaign which they themselves believe is ‘absurd’ which if passes, will force couples who wish to get married to prove that they can have children and then upon marriage, force them to have a child within three years or possibly have their marriage annulled. All other marriages would be classified as ‘unrecognized’ which would make them ineligible for marriage benefits.

The group says that the proposal is meant to be directed at “social conservatives who have long screamed that marriage exists for the sole purpose of procreation.” In order for the proposal to be added to the November ballot, the group must gather 224,800 signatures by July 6.

An Albany man has been arrested and charged with assault and criminal mistreatment after his wife reported him to police for shocking their 18 month old son with a stun gun. According to police reports, Rian Whittman, 23, had used the stun gun up to 10 times on the infant over the last three weeks before his wife reported him and he was taken into custody. The child was taken to the hospital and treated before being turned over to protective services. It was noted that the stun gun used was an older model that required the weapon to be applied directly to the infant’s skin in order to cause the shock. Police have yet to figure out a motive for the crime or why it began three weeks ago.

Finally, a pair of skeletons has been found buried 25 miles south of the city of Verona in Italy. The skeletons are said to have been buried approximately 5,000 to 6,000 years ago during the Neolithic era. What makes this find so interesting is that the skeletons were found buried together, facing each other while hugging. Scientists believe that the couple was young when they died since their teeth were found in tact and were also most likely buried at the same time which indicates a sudden and possibly tragic death for the pair. DNA testing is scheduled to find out if the pair was related or if they were possibly lovers.
