The Australian cricket team, who won the ICC Champions Trophy 2006, last Sunday, is under fire from the Indian media, for their unruly behavior during the presentation ceremony. Sharad Pawar, the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Food and Agriculture Union Minister of India, was pushed off the dais by the Australian team, after he presented them with Champions Trophy. Cricket Australia (CA) would now investigate into the team’s alleged misbehavior at the presentation ceremony. The spokesman for CA, Peter Young, said that the investigation would be carried out over the course of the next few days, as the team had just reached home.

Cricketing Maestro Sachin Tendulkar came down heavily on the Australian team, calling their behavior as ‘unpleasant’ and ‘uncalled for’. However, Shard Pawar, who was involved in this incident, wrote it off as a ‘small, stupid thing’ and said that he did not want to react to this incident.

Indian newspapers carried the pictures of Damien Martyn pushing Pawar with this right hand, on their front-page today morning, with head lines like ‘This is how champions behave when they get the trophy’.

This is the first time that an Australian cricket team has won the ICC Champions Trophy, which has eluded them for many years. The defending champions West Indies lost the finals to Australia, after putting up a poor show that undermined the team’s actual potential.

Neither the Australian Captain nor any of his team members have apologized for their behavior nor have they commented on this incident, till now.
