David Lynch has never been a conventional film maker, and Inland Empire is a fine example. Instead of using the regular equipment associated with movie making he opts for a consumer grade Sony PD-150 digital cam. This gives a very gritty feel to the movie, and one that we are not used to.

Inland Empire was a cult hit when it was released in 2006, and the Aug 14th 2007 DVD version offers fans a lot of new footage from the movie, together with various other interesting insights into this avant gard director.

Inland Empire is not for the beginner, it a complex often confusing montage that that often leaves the viewer wondering what is going on. The tag line for the movie is ‘A woman in trouble’, it is left to the viewer to discover if that is so. Staring Laura Dern as Nikki Grace an aspiring actress, we watch as her world merges with the character she is playing.

For those of you not familiar with Inland Empire there are a couple of trailers available, that give you a flavour of David Lynch’s style.

This DVD is worth the effort, and I can guarantee that if nothing else, it will make for a great conversation piece around the water cooler at work.
