Celebrities think they know it all (“no, I’m not a doctor, but I played one on TV”) . So actor Tim Robbins told broadcasters that they need to only report the truth:

And “just when we were close to a national news media providing a general consensus on what the truth is,” he added, “along comes the Internets [sic] that allows its users a choice on the kind of news it watches and the YouTube. My God, we’ve got to stop them.”

Shut down YouTube? Like the Chinese are doing? Like in the Great Firewall of China?

Dang! There goes ObamaGirl.

However, Mr. Robbins, your wish is being fulfilled in the great country of France, as Brigitte Bardot has discovered.

Those of us who remember the 1950’s know Ms Bardot mainly for her roles with, how should I say this, with few or little clothing. She was the first “sex kitten” in filmdom, and since her retirement she has been active in animal rights issues, even before Pam Anderson or PETA got on the bandwagon.

But in her zeal, she went a little too far, and insulted people of a certain culture who tend to like their sheep meat fresh.

French former film star Brigitte Bardot went on trial on Tuesday for insulting Muslims, the fifth time she has faced the charge of “inciting racial hatred”…

She has been fined four times for inciting racial hatred since 1997, at first 1,500 euros and most recently 5,000.

Bardot, an animal rights activist, is upset about many things, including killing seals in Canada and dog restaurants in Korea, but I don’t remember her being arrested for insulting Koreans or Canadians.

Bardot did not even hold a protest, nor did she attack the sheep killers, she merely wrote a letter protesting their actions to the French government, and the letter was later published.

The Paris court heard that the actress-turned-animal rights campaigner had written a letter in December 2006 to President Nicolas Sarkozy, then interior minister, in protest of the method of slaying sheep during the Muslim festival of Aid El-Kebir. Bardot called for the sheep to be stunned before they are bled to death, which is the traditional method.

More problematic was what Bardot followed that up with.

“We’re fed up with being led around by this whole population which is destroying us, destroying our country by imposing its acts,” she wrote….
Several anti-racism groups in France filed complaints about the letter, accusing Bardot of provoking discrimination and racial hatred toward Muslims.

So there you have it.

Someone whose complaints about animal cruelty are now labled as divisive hate speech.

Mr. Robbins will undoubtably be pleased since he told the press that “…divisive coverage of racial and social issues should be left behind…”

Yup. Just stick anyone in jail if they complain about sheep guts in the gutter.

Thanks for the headsup from Drudge
