The Levity EventWorld Laughter Day NYC Subway event brings the spirit of laughter to the  New York City subway trains spreading laughter from the participants to bystanders and back again creating a ripple effect of positivity and possibility. What is World Laughter Day?“World Laughter Day” was created in 1998 by Dr. Madan Kataria, founder of the worldwide Laughter Yoga movement. The celebration of World Laughter Day is a positive manifestation for world peace and is intended to build up a global consciousness of connection and friendship through laughter. This event is sponsored by The Levity Project which is a social movement with the mission of shifting the paradigm of negativity, stress, and pessimism in our society to one of play, laughter and celebration. Our vision is to create positive social change by engaging in acts of levity in public places for the purpose of awakening people to the value and necessity of bringing joy and lightness into our lives. The Levity Project is looking for people to join us on May 2, 2010 at 10:00am in New York City.  We will gather together in “flash mob” style and share laughter and the spirit of play together in a public place. The event will last two hours.   People should be prepared to laugh in a large group on the NYC subway. Last year, the Levity Project kicked off its National Tour in Chicago with an Umbrella Hat Freeze, a Laughter Party, and a Laughter Flash.  Here is what some participants had to say about their experience:“It was FANTASTIC.  So fun to be part of an event that can encourage others to bring more laughter and joy into their lives.”  Mary Watkins“I felt a new level of childlike freedom. It was a rush! I felt SUPER comfortable with this freedom.” Kim KoteckiThe Levity Project believes that each person is an agent of change and when we awaken to our power in this way, we can make collective social change a realityOur subway rides will all come together in Times Square at noon, bringing our laughter from underground, out into the sunshine.  We will be joining Laughter Yoga leaders for a World Laughter Day Celebration from 12-1:30, walking and laughing from Times Square to the United Nations.  No registration is necessary for this part of the event. The details of the subway event will be given only to registered participants before the event day.  This is a free event, although you will have to purchase your subway fare.  You must be registered to receive the detailed information of the specific laughter train routes.  This will be a coordinated event to distribute laughers in groups.Register to participate at and receive detailed meeting places and times. For more information contact: Katie West-Founder of The Levity Project ,, (207) 239-8667Or Ina Lukas, Operations Manager, (760) 500-9878The Levity Project
