From a branding viewpoint maybe Mantra is not the best title. If you are looking for some spiritual enlightenment, you came to the wrong Wal Mart aisle. This is Punk, it is fun, it is raw, it is wild, and it exudes energy.

Originally released in 1995 Mantra is probably the showcase of the band Shelter. I really like the way that they dodge in and out of musical styles, from Pop to Punk in two chords! Ray Cappo is the driving force behind Shelter, and about the only thing you can guarantee from Ray is change. As the saying goes “Please fasten your seat belts and make sure that the tray tables are in the upright and locked position”, I think that admirably sums this band up.

Do not be scared off by the Punk label, this is a band with style, and musical panache. The ability to change genres even within the same song is a fabulous asset. One article that I read about this band claimed that every CD was completely different. Somehow I can believe that, every song is completely different.

Take Shelter for an aural treat from MVD.
