What a difference a decade and a half makes. In 1983 Attrition had all of the musical ability of a Ham Sandwich! Esoteria (1999) is a whole different world, still very Goth, and still very dark, it has a much deeper musical feel to it.

The industrial sound I found to be very similar to The Cranes, light vocals and dark, dark, electronica.

Esoteria is a compilation of works spanning a wide period 1982-2004, however it is very much a sophisticated hand that is used. Gone are the ‘off  key’, and teeth jarring guitar riffs, and in, is the viola. But do not be fooled, this is still dark and melodramatic stuff. Electronica has always been a big part of Attrition, and they use it to great effect on this album.

Attrition may not be for everyone, but they are worth a try. If you check out their web page www.attrition.co.uk you can ‘try before you buy’. And if you do want to buy, you can get your copy from MVD.
