CBS has just announced the permanent cancellation of the Imus in the Morning radio program. Don Imus (in case you have been living under a rock) is the broadcaster who referred to the Rutgers Women’s Basketball team as Nappy Headed Ho’s.

In a Reuters article published today there is speculation that Don Imus will likely hang up his microphone for good. In my mind society has taken being ‘politically correct’ to a ridiculous level. Everyone needs to take a deep breath and count to 10.

It seems to me that it’s not so much what is said that is important, it is who said it that counts. If Don Imus was black, no-one would give a damn. But Don Imus is white, and so this is headline making news. In many ways it is similar to the situation that Michael Richards, better known as Kramer from Seinfeld got himself into a while back when he used the dreaded N-word in front of an audience. Again, if he had been a black guy nothing would have been said.

On the other hand, listen to some of the lyrics from the land of Rap music, N-words and Ho’s there are aplenty. And no-one says a word. There is distinct imbalance in the world.
